I really wanted Lola to be good. I will never give a place a 1 star nor a 5 but as a food critic I've got to be honest and lay it out how it is. Obviously everyone seems to like Lola but let me give a quick run down. Today is January 12 2019. Its the off season in Nantucket. I called to make a reservation because it was my wife and my anniversary. They said we will have prosecco for you both..... That never happened. We ordered the Wagyu carpaccio. While most carpaccio is filet we asked the server " who didn't know at first but she did find out" and it was flank steak. We were a little bummed but still decided to try it. I was Ok-ish. It really didn't have much of a flavor. Maybe it was just a off night. Next my wife order a "prime" filet tenderloin. Medium Rare. ...... Of course comes out medium well and as it rested was well done at the end. There is no way there is anything prime about the cut of meat. We have been to just about every high end steak place in America and there is nothing Prime about that steak. While being possibly a 4 or 5oz steak the taste and tenderness was more like a cooked hamburger from Chilis or Applebees. It was terrible. It was like those little vacuum sealed " beef tenderloins" at Kroger or Publix for $6. Just a total disappointment for small portions and $100 worth of a meal.
On a positive note the Gin and tonic I got was terrific, the atmosphere was nice for a off season island restaurant and the white truffle fries were cooked great.
overall for the price, what you get, and the quality was pretty lack luster. Hopefully this review will help Lola check their quality and...
Read moreAlways a consistent experience....just visited again when in town last week. The food was delicious and portions are nice. The miso black cod was as good as Nobu and the tuna nachos are outstanding. The sushi and rolls are always good but overpriced and honestly just as good as my hometown local spot. But the other items are fun and interesting. The only two downsides, for us...usually we find a seat at the bar...this time we made a reservation. Quite a process of anxiety having to call the day of promptly at 4 when they open the reservations up for the evening. We got one, thank goodness as I had my daughter with me that evening. The second less pleasant element was how close the tables are. It’s tables to our sides were joking with us that we all should sit together. One lady knocked over my drink getting out while the other gentleman couldn’t eat without encroaching on my daughters plate. I would rather have one less table in the row and have to wait an extra hour for a table knowing I could have a private conversation or not have a drink spilled on me. But the food is very good and the ambiance (despite the close quarters) is trendy and beach fun. Their drinks are also...
Read moreHad a reservation for dinner here. Had no problem getting a table, as it was the last weekend before the season. The ambiance was nice and on the dark side inside that forced the use of the candlelight at the tables.
Ended up with a really nice server. No issues with her at all, but the food was a let down.
We had ordered the chicken lettuce cups, but they never came. I don't attribute this to our server, but at the end of the day, the entrees had enough food to not need this.
We ended up getting the grilled salmon lo mein (water chestnuts, snoew peas, broccoli, carrot, bell pepper and sorrel) and the lola burger (cabot cheddar, red onion compote, foie gras sauce on an english muffin). The burger did come with thick shoestring fries.
Food was a little bit of a let down. The grilled salmon itself was pretty good but the lo mein was just okay. Not overly flavorful and unrememberable. The burger was also just okay. The fries were not good. Half soggy and way too salty.
We did let the server know about the missing lettuce cups and she took care of it no problem. Very disappointing for a high-end restaurant. This was the least-liked food...
