I made a reservation for 3 a week ago. At the end the male on the phone made it a point to lecture me on showing up on time, only have an hour and if we exceed that hour then they'll remind us to leave. So I said fine not thinking too much about it. Today we arrived at the restaurant and the table wasn't ready. Keep in mind that their employee lectured me on being on time and emphasized the fact that we have a limited time to eat there. We waited 10 min with no table yet. I go back inside to speak with a manager (which just happens to be standing at the hostess podium), and she starts arguing and making excuses. I explained that it's been 10 min and just wanted to know why it was taking so long and the manager started arguing first explaining that there were not available tables then after questioning her on why we were told be there at 1 if they couldn't clear tables so quickly she then changed her answer to tables are being sanitized. I then again asked how long will it take to sanitize a table, to which she said she didn't know. If I were in her shoes I'd go find out since it would take a min, but she opted to argue with me. As I was walking outside (because they're enforcing the mask wearing), I told her that my experience starting out is bad due to them not being prepared and arguing. That's when the general manager justin came up to me, without asking what was wrong, and kicked me out. His excuse was that I was not wearing a mask but I tried to explain to him that I don't have one and that we simply wanted to get out table OUTSIDE, which to he said "that's fine" and told me to leave. justin from the start had an aggressive demeanor and the customer service skills of a toddler. It came off that he was not just eager to kick people out but making it his life mission. I would recommend he be fired or not engage with customers if he's not willing to resolve issues and at least ASK, "what's going on". Not your average joes is a sub-par restaurant at best, so you'd think that they would be eager to make a positive impression since their food is nothing to write home about. I'd go down the street towards the mall where there are better places to eat, with friendlier staff who have common sense rather than give into fearing mongering and remaining uneducated about infectious diseases. By the way I work in the healthcare space, specifically in...
Read moreNYAJ's has been one of my favorite restaurants since I first went years ago. Mustard Crusted Chicken has always been consistently delicious through the years... until now.
I went to the Nashua location two nights ago. Apparently it was reservation only (though that wasn't posted anywhere I saw, the bar was available). The price was more expensive than it was when I was the about 6 months before the pandemic, yet there was a lot less less on the plate. (As in, we had more dip for the bread than I had mashed potatoes with my entree.) The chicken was small and extremely thin, completely dry and the batter did not taste anything like what it has for years in addition to being dry as if it was just unbattered/uncooked store bought bread crumbs. Then, to make matters worse, with no sauce offered to go with the near cardboard they tried to pass off as their mustard crusted chicken (a first I've experienced at NYAJ's...not even their aioli)...I don't know what the hell it was they brought me, but someone needs to explain to the chefs that whatever that is, it is NOT in any way shape or form, honey mustard sauce. It tasted like vinegar and jalepeno with some honey thrown in. It took hours to get that nasty taste out of my mouth. I felt bad for the bar tender when I asked her if that was what they were calling honey mustard sauce now. She looked embarrassed when she confirmed it was.
I've always raved about NYAJ's, but I honestly couldn't have been more disappointed with my over priced, inedible meal. The sides were small for the price but at least edible, all things considered. Only plus side was the very minimal commentary bread. If I hadn't have experienced that myself, I never would have believed NYAJ's was capable of producing such disappointing and inedible food. (I even tried taking the chicken home to find some other sauce to help off set the dry/uncooked store bought breading taste but the was no use....

My friends and I went to Not Your Average Joe's in Nashua for our annual holiday celebration. A couple of us ordered the Gingerbread martini, only for our server, Desiree, to come back and say that the restaurant is out of Bailey's. I understand that things happen however, if this is a holiday special that you're actively promoting on the menu and via waitstaff, then there should be plenty of stock on hand, especially given that we were told the computer monitors all the inventory. Instead, we ordered the holiday spiced sangria. When we tried it, there was no flavor. Just water. Desiree took the pitcher and brought us a new one. Was a little better but still not really able to taste any of the ginger or spices that were listed. Desiree did an outstanding job in terms of customer service. She was excellent and we even spoke to her manager (before any of our food came out) to let him know how happy we were. We ordered the butternut squash flatbread appetizer to share. It was good except the squash was only half cooked. For dinner, one person order the butternut risotto with scallops, two of us had the sole, and one ordered a turkey sandwich. Again, the butternut squash was only half cooked and the scallops were way overcooked. The sole came with cauliflower and potatoes, neither were cooked, just seared, and the lemon caper sauce was so overpowering you couldn't taste anything else and made the fish slimy. We did let Desiree know and she mentioned that there had been some other complaints about the squash not being cooked thoroughly. We've all eaten at Not Your Average Joe's in the past and it's been excellent. Had this been our first time dining here, we wouldn't come back nor...
