Featuring Tribe
Ratchet Level: Low Cover: $10 CASH ONLY(Tribe is free) Music: Pop/Hop-Hop (EDM)
Once you cross the bridge leaving the tourist area you are in the real Nashville getting a Two-for-One. These two venues are right next to each other and the building is connected so you are getting a packaged deal for the most part. Tribe is where you want to go first for drinks. The venue is nice and is more of a lounge aesthetic. On the right side is a huge bar with stools and a seating area. On the left side there is a smaller bar with tables and a couch. There was a back room closed but there was a sign for a drag performance/brunch in that room. The place was new, well kept, and modern but standard at the same time. Colorful lights, televisions on the wall playing music videos, etc. People were talking for the most part. The crowd was small with little to no diversity. No one was really dancing. So I would recommend coming here to chill and drink before hitting Play I think I paid $9 for a Long Island which is fair because I had been paying $11 and up at most places in Nashville. When you leave out the door for Play is legit a few feet away. There was a bit of a line because the drag show was about to start. Play is cash only which is annoying in 2019 but they had someone working the lines to manage the crowd to the two ATMs and front load people who had cash already. The process was fast because there is also two registers. After you pass this part there is the main room. The stage is to your left with reserved seating around it. The stage is a pretty nice size for drag performances. To your right is the bar where I paid $10 for a Long Island. The drag queen performing are QUALITY. I have been reviewing clubs internationally for over 6 years and this was a relief. I wouldnât expect anything less from where Rupaul Drag Raceâs Brooklyn Hytes is from (she actually came to the show the very next day I just missed her). The crowd was in love with the performers and everything was well prepared and on time . You do NOT see this very often at all. After watching about four performers I wanted to check out the dance floor. When I entered that room it was a completely different vibe. The dance floor was packed. The crowd was extremely diverse with couples gay and straight of all color, sizes, and types. It was giving me New York rave vibes. I got lost in the crowd just dancing to good music. It was amazing. The only complaint is a combination of the fog machine and drinks spilling all over the floor it was extremely wet and slippery. I even witnessed a man fall on his way out. I would have someone working the floors to sweep/mop even with the crowd so packed. New music was being played. I had a great time. I left around 3am. Right outside is a hotdog stand to grab some street food. I was too distracted by a car accident I witnessed right as I was leaving. Everyone was extremely fast acting on helping the accident and that was a real moment (myself included). Play (featuring Tribe) was an amazing experience. I would come here every time I visit or even visit just for the club. Your favorite international club critic;...
Read moreIâve been coming here on and off for around a decade. The drag shows are amazing and keep getting better and better! If youâre coming to just watch that then you will be happy. Get a VIP table if you can.
But after 3 separate disappointing times coming here within the past year I have to voice my concerns about the DJ music. Please get new DJs!!!!!!!!!!
DJ Ron was the best back in the day, and there is still amazing local talent like Jane Dupree or Spice J, etc. that Play could hire but instead I see these young white guys staring at computer screens through their reading glasses not even nodding their heads or tapping their feet or moving their hands to the beat. Youâd think they were working on a term paper instead of DJing I kid you not.
A good DJ moves with his music. Itâs an art like anything else and guys staring at their laptops and not moving is a bad sign.
Last night I came with a large group of 10 and we were ready to dance and spend some serious money on drinks to celebrate a birthday.
Once again, the music was sooooo horrible. I donât know what those DJs are doing up there but itâs just awful. Who wants to dance to Elsa singing âLet it Goâ to some generic techno beat? Not me. I mean look I tried but it was like Kidz Bop and I hear that enough at home with my kids, except I can dance to it bc the beats are somewhat decent. Who wants to listen to *NSYNC âBye Bye Byeâ slowed down to a dark sludge pop? No one. Songs were so weirdly mixed none of us could really dance. There was nothing current. And anything actually decent like âCalifornia Girlsâ was so horribly mixed (the actual beat was missing and replaced with some wannabe Skrillex with the chorus taken out) that you couldnât dance to it. They played the BGs staying alive twice-again awfully mixed and just...why? Where is the fun music from today? Then the terrible songs just kept repeating. They had it on a loop!!! So what are your DJs doing if everything is on a loop?
They used to play top 40 music mixed in with amazing danceable beats. Thatâs what people want to hear.
We left early. We came to drink and dance, we were all dressed up and the club lost money on us. I was embarrassed after telling everyone how awesome this place was and the music is what made us leave.
I hope the management changes this please. I have been a huge supporter of your club. I had my bachelorette party here, I used to come every weekend, and Iâd love to come back more but this music has got to change. Iâm seeing others voice...
Read moreI plan to keep it at a one star until I see improvements from DJ Seizure.
This guys track lists isnât the greatest. Also, it would be great to have more up to date music. Try to go on Spotify to see whatâs popular today. And if the DJ is gunna talk, he should at least have some stage presence and not be sitting while yelling to try getting the room excited.
He recycles a bunch of his work and itâs just the same thing any night he is on the board. I really wish that Play would let this guy know we want better music. I didnât know others already said things in the past reviews. So this might be a good idea to let this DJ know we want better music and not the same stuff.
Also, please donât respond leave a general apology. Others, as well as I, who love music would rather want a response confirming that management has informed DJ Seizure to read these reviews thatâs affecting this great venue. Response to the owner: hey dude, I dunno where youâre getting the assumption that I DJ. I am a software student in school while in Nashville. The only thing I DJ is my python code.
Iâd appreciate if you wouldnât assume, and just understand Iâm a customer trying to give you a feedback cause I love the club, but Iâm tired of the same recycled music.
If you are going to make an objective statement, Iâd like for you to site your source. It isnât cool trying to call out someone with a fabricated story. But on the other hand, youâre right about being harsh. Iâll stay with a 2 star until you can say you plan to improve the music content.
Site your sources before you try to slander a legit review and make yourself look like a fool. Iâd like to see your sources to see where you came up with this ridiculous idea. Super inappropriate. Even if youâre finding someone with the same name, get the chance to talk to your customers before making accusations. âJulianâ is a common Spaniard name like âJohnâ. Anyways if you want to talk I await your response so that I may receive an apology.
P.S. sorry if you got offended with the original post. But as a manager who over looks reviews, its best you donât take constructive criticism personally. Use it as a tool to learn what your customers are wanting. This is why R&D exists and why places can keep giving people...
