I started at QNTM in April of 2019. Originally, for what they offer I was fine paying the high monthly fee. It had open gym 24/7, classes such as spin, HIIT, boxing, strength, core, dance, yoga... really something for everybody. My membership (the highest) also included a sauna, tanning, red light therapy, and more. I really enjoyed the classes and the instructors at the time were great. I was new to the gym life but everyone made me feel welcome and I made some great friends.
Then there were some changes in staff and I guess overall culture. QNTM started to get a little self-inflated, even for a gym. The classes (which were an hour long) would only have 20-25 minutes of actual work because it turned into instructor boast hour. We would do a 6 minute AMRAP and then have 10 minutes before starting the next station, partly because instructors talk too much, and partly because they couldn't structure things well. I kept going because I had made good friends and enjoyed the accountability, but the quality of the actual workouts decreased and I wasn't seeing results I should see from going to the gym 5 times a week.
Then when COVID hit, they initially weren't offering any kind of sympathy or solutions for people. They asked people to keep paying (even though the gym was completely closed) so that staff could stay on etc. I get that they needed monthly revenue to keep the gym alive for us to have something to come back to. But they were not the only people getting hit financially from the global pandemic. When I asked to freeze my account, they asked I show a doctor's note saying I had COVID. When I explained that I didn't have it, but I didn't have any income coming in, they agreed to let me freeze my account. I guess everyone was asking this, because they then sent an email letting everyone know they could freeze their accounts until the gym re-opened, but they made sure to add a guilt blurb about how continuing to pay each month will help keep the gym afloat.
When things were allowed to re-open, I still didn't feel comfortable with the risk of being back in a gym and asked to cancel. They told me I had to come in (during a global pandemic- which is why I am not going to the gym in the first place) in order to cancel. I did that in July, and August was supposed to be my last month of billing. I was just billed again for September and when I called them about it, Lisa told me that Andrea just "didn't put in the cancellation like she was supposed to." Offering no apology at first, she said she would refund me, but only on Monday, because that is the only day of the week they can do refunds. I'm sorry, what?
I used to recommend this gym to everyone. It's disappointing that like so many others who have recently posted here (that aren't staff), I've had such bad experiences that I had to leave a...
Read moreI have been coming to this gym for some time now. I enjoy the gym well enough to keep coming back, but half the reason I liked the gym has disappeared since I signed on. They have boxing equipment in a separate room, and the main bag has been broken for months. As someone who would spend significant amounts of time in there, just working on things by myself/technique, and honestly calming down from the work day, I value this piece of equipment. I've learned things on my own, on my own time, with this standing bag. When I came to visit the gym in the first place, when deciding whether to sign up, I spent about half the time with this thing.
Since it's been broken, I have asked the staff up front (at least five separate times) what's up with the bag/when will it be fixed, but the response is always some wishy-washy "I think there's another one in the back" or "yeah, I'm SORRY" (very helpful response I know). I never know what to do when a staff member acts like they don't care (for the record, there are SOME very nice staff members). I have left voicemails on the gym phone; no call back. I'm tired of being the girl who asks about the bag. Gyms should have working equipment. I shouldn't be leaving the gym unsatisfied with my workout, when I pay this place $$$ every month.
It's been since the spring. Please fix the bag. Then I'll come back and edit this review.
---- UPDATE ---- 11/22/2023 ---- Since I left my first review (I believe about a month ago?), I noticed that a portion of the specific bag I mentioned had been replaced...
I would like to explain exactly how the bag is/has been broken - the bag has two parts: the base, and the top (squishier) part. The top slides over the middle of the base, like a lipstick cap (sorry, best example for now). The base, the part that supports the top, is the broken part. As in, anyone could walk up to this bag right now, even though it looks intact, poke it, and it would break in two pieces.
So, back to what I noticed the other day, the top part looked new. I got really excited for a second. Then I poked it and realized that it was not functional. The part that was broken on the base is still broken, and this thing is completely unable to withstand punches (or any contact; the wind could probably knock it over). It seems like the top had been replaced, when there was nothing wrong with the old one (I mean, the new one is pretty clean, so I'm not complaining). In conclusion, the new top looks great, but the base needs to be replaced for the bag to work. It has not been replaced.
While I am still pretty disappointed (seriously, sucks to have some real hope walking up to that thing), I am glad to see that something changed, so I am increasing my review to 2 stars. I would really like to come back and change it again, maybe when the bag is...
Read moreI really can't say enough about this gym. I miss very few things from my trip to Nashville, one is Kayne, and the other is definitely this gym.
For $15 (I think) I was able to use the gym for 24 hours! Everything was available to me except a member's only area on the top floor that's similar to a Crossfit box. Everything they had in there however was available elsewhere throughout the gym. (Except jump ropes, they were hard to come by, and could be borrowed from that members only room)
There are plenty of squat racks! I think I remember seeing lifting platforms too. The machines they chose for free weight lifting and circuit lifting are top of the line. My personal favorite about this gym was the large area dedicated to body weight workouts & stretching. There was plenty of room for 4-5 of us to comfortably do our own "thing". I used free weights, kettle bells, and jump ropes, while a pair of guys were working on big balancing balls, and another had a mat out to stretch. I felt comfortable doing my warm up drills which include a lot of back and forth running/skipping/jumping. Mirrors are available all around that area.
This gym is clean. It was the exact vibe I was looking for, exposed brick, duct work, weight lifters, professional athletes, "hole in the wall" seriousness, it somehow was sparkling clean! Wipes were readily available and I do use them before and after using equipment, but in general the locker rooms & weight rooms were well kept.
The cycling room is one of a kind. I've only ever seen another like it at Vida in DC (which charges $200+ for membership). The lighting effects and organisation of the bikes is really well done! I didn't get to take a class but I would have loved to try it!
I took advantage of the merchandise here. Their shirts, male & unisex were what I purchased, are the softest I've ever worn, even post washing!! Highly recommend.
I took advantage of the full body scan here. For an additional fee ($50 I think?) a machine will use a bunch of lasers/photos to totally map out your body. It will tell you exactly measurements, body fat, % muscle % after you stand on a rotating platform for a minute! The report that's generated is totally customisable, and I'd love to return to get another done soon.
If I was considering a membership I would have noticed things like Qutips, towels, soap, etc in the locker rooms. Unfortunately, I didn't even look for any of it because of my short time there.
Free wi-fi available, just ask for the password!
Highly recommend you...
