I've been here twice, and almost everything has been excellent. Today, I brought my partner and my friend who flew in from Texas, and we all really enjoyed our treats!
However, the woman taking orders/working the desk around 2ish did something really upsetting and I just can't imagine any justification for it. I think she had dyed hair, and multiple tattoos, maybe in her early 30s. This isn't verbatim because the moment was a blur but I caught enough.
When my friend ordered the grilled cheese croissant, the last taking their order belittled and mocked them for not calling it the "Thomas", asking if they could read in a way that was really not kind. My friend quietly explained their abuser's name was Thomas and they just didn't want to say his name, not trying to make it anyone else's problem, just asking for the food. And the lady smiled and said something to the effect of "Well, I just can't do anything right can I??" Just weirdly unkind and unprofessional.
And then when my partner and I ordered, she was completely nice to us, even offered my partner a way to ask for their order so that it was slightly cheaper.
The guy who handed my friend their food when it was ready -- who also had multiple tattoos (tattoos are cool I just don't remember other any other major descriptors) -- was very kind and it soothed some of the sting, which was very appreciated. The outdoor seating was lovely, and overall we enjoyed stopping by, but to the lady taking our orders.. I don't feel like you should be working in customer service if you can't keep from taking your bitterness out...
Read moreWe took the Independence Pass from Aspen to Estes Park and stopped in Nederland for lunch. We decided to try the Train Cars Coffee and Kava, and I’m really glad we did. Having lunch in the old train cars was really charming. The entire vibe of the place was very welcoming, and the employees were very friendly and welcoming. Since we’re both vegetarian, we got the grilled cheese and pesto on a croissant, which was very tasty albeit a bit greasy (I mean cheese and croissant, so not unexpected). We also decided to try the “world famous” mini donuts, and got them with chocolate, caramel, powdered sugar and whipped cream. Honestly, they were ok - I wouldn’t get them again, but when you’re there it’s fun to try them. It wasn’t the best food ever - I’d love to go there some morning for coffee, I bet it’s great - but I would definitely go there again. A solid meal in a very unique setting with friendly service. Definitely...
Read moreThe cashier, who lacked personality, did not greet us and looked annoyed to have to assist us with a simple question. We asked if they carried ice cream and flavors, in which she took about 30 seconds then just nodded and pointed to the chalkboard when I asked where because it wasn’t anywhere obvious on their menu. This chick proceeded to charge $6/each for flavorless, melted froyo in a cheap sugar cone (asked for a waffle cone) from a box that melted before we even walked out the door! And it wasn’t even good… it was so disappointing! In both Denver and Boulder, I can get real homemade ice cream on an actual homemade waffle cone for less than that! This place lacks proper customer service, friendliness, ventilation, and appropriately priced food options (especially for Nederland, of all places)… no wonder they’re looking for help. I won’t be bringing my friends here again. Looks clearly...
