Willie's Grill & Icehouse — Restaurant in New Braunfels

Overall you get what you expect from a chain restaurant. We frequent Willie’s often. We typically have always had decent to good service with consistent food, with the random off days, but they always took care of what was going on. But Fast forward to their new servers they have hired and bartender(s)are absolutely terrible (I don’t know if they serve just on the floor as well as we only sit at the bar), worst service we have had. Two ladies behind the bar, neither had a personality, and the service was just terrible. From start to finish. My food this time was gross, i had the brisket tacos and they literally poured out grease, and the baked potato was cold. She didn’t came back to see if we needed refills or check how the food was until about 20 minutes after we got our food. We didn’t come back for about 2 weeks, decided to give it another try, we sat at the bar and the bartender looked at me, made eye contact and kept talking to her co-workers. We waited and after about 10 minutes of waiting and she still hadn’t approached us we left. There was also no one really in the restaurant it was slower and only two other individuals at the bar. We then again didn’t come back right away, when we did come back the bartender was different, she had personality but just lacked the overall server skills. I really wanted to like this place, really!

It is a strange place. You walk in and it looks like a sit down and be waited on restaurant. However, you have to order in a line off a menu on the wall like a fast food place. Then you fill your own drink and sit down with a ticket. Next a waitress comes over and takes the ticket and puts the order in. Bizarre.

So then you are not sure if you are supposed to refill your drink or the waitress? Oh, and at the end you need to top the waitress but the people who took your order do not get a tip? So strange, makes no sense at all.

The food came out and yes, it was just fast food. Fries were hard as a rock. Catfish was ok but the pieces are small and a small is 3 pieces which is about one normal piece at other places. Shrimp was overcooked but seamed to have a good flavour but man it was overcooked!

Staff were nice but it is what it is. You have my opinion and I eat out all the time! Bathroom was not very clean and was dead silent which for some makes it hard to go #1 when the guy in the booth next to you is trying to go #2. Just throw a speaker in...

My husband and I came in for dinner and it was AMAZING. Our server Willow made the whole experience the absolute best. Both my husband and I have been in the restaurant industry for a long time and let me tell you she knew her stuff. She was so sweet with our baby too my daughter loved her! We never had to ask for refills or extra anything and Willow had everything out to us super fast! Her energy was over the moon and the food was sooo good. The onion rings and the Mac n cheese brisket balls were delicious. We had just order the onion rings as our appetizer but Willow suggested we try the brisket balls next time we come in but we decided to just go ahead and get them. The best things ever. I had the shrimp tacos and some gumbo and my husband had a burger and sweet potato fries. Everything was perfect.
