My husband and I are locals and decided to do a staycation at the Virgin Hotel for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, four of our friends were coming to join us at the bar. We went down to the bar, which was relatively empty, and decided to go towards the area by the wall and bring some chairs over to make a little space for us. There was a male bartender and a female bartender working at the time. The female bartender began aggressively suggesting that our group would be "more comfortable" in the seating areas and that we would be served over there. It was obvious she didn't want us at the bar so we did decide to go sit at the couches. We waited a little while but we're not served and decided that we actually wanted to sit at the bar like we had originally intended. We all went back over to the bar, this time sitting closer to the bend of the bar. The female bartender ignored us, until someone asked if they serve Bullet whiskey, to which she barked back that they "do not serve alcohol from a bigoted company that has problems with gay people". Not what we were asking, and even though my friends and I all agree that companies should be inclusive, it was a totally unnecessary response to the question. She then left the bar completely and never came back. Which left the male bartender in a very bad position as the bar started to get very busy. He tried his best to keep up with all the orders, but the fact that the female bartender had decided to leave instead of serving us made his job that more complicated. It seems like the female bartender is not very well suited to the...
Read moreWe had a party of 9, so we made a reservation. We showed up early and let them know, just in case they had an early opening. We were told to sit in the waiting area and they would let us know when they were ready. At 9:15, a member of our party asked about the progress of our table. The hostess seemed caught off guard and said they were currently preparing our table. Five minutes later we were seated. Our orders were taken within 5 minutes. 7 of the 9 ordered cheeseburgers, and the other 2 ordered scallops. At 10:20, we asked about our food. We were told they were sorry for the wait, but steak takes time. That's when we informed the manager no steaks were ordered. We finally received our food around 10:45. All the burgers were completely raw on the inside. Not medium, not medium rare, but extra rare. The manager looked inconvenienced for our kitchen induced misfortune. He called for our waitress, then announced he was comping the meal we didn't eat. We said thank you and we understand people have bad nights. From the time we were told our uneaten meal was comped, we were totally ignored by the waitress and manager. The waitress had ignored us after initially taking our order. Two of our party asked for a to go water and were ignored. After arriving at a 4 star restaurant at 8:30, we left at 11 with no food. Somehow Krystal's knows how to make a cheeseburger, but the chef at Commons does not. Don't waste your...
Read moreTL;DR: They ruined our Thanksgiving dinner and didn't care.
I think this may be only the second or third time I have EVER not left a tip. Like $0.
Three of us were there for a three-course fixed price Thanksgiving dinner. Our seating was at 5:30. We didn't leave until about 8:15 -- and that was after only two courses, as we asked for our deserts to go. When we complained around 6:45, asking why we still hadn't receive our main courses, they comped us our first round of drinks and told us the main course should be arriving in 10 minutes. After 15 minutes, another waiter said our waiter was getting our food at that moment. It was another 10 minutes after that. My beef short rib was both overcooked and room-temperature. A companion's traditional Thanksgiving turkey was deemed just "OK." The third said her fish was not very good. The deserts were even worse. Throughout the meal we had to keep asking other waitstaff to have our waiter come back. And we never did get the dinner rolls we had asked for (they were extra). Fortunately, they weren't listed on the bill. The mixed drinks were good, but you can get drinks that are both better and cheaper at the Carousel Bar in the Quarter. Worst $250 I...
