We were in NOLA the weekend of Feb 2nd, 2024. We were looking forward to spending Saturday exploring the French Quarter but unfortunately the day started with a gentle rain and proceeded to become a raging downpour throughout the day. Fortunately we found Harry's and we couldn't have landed at a better place.
A true neighborhood bar. Unpretentious with an overdose of friendly bartenders, patrons, and even a self-described witch. It was very easy to start a conversation with anybody there. The vibe was perfect. The atmosphere is low-key and welcoming. They have a fantastic old-school jukebox in the corner and the liquor offering is everything I'd expect. We loved spending the day in our new favorite bar away from home.
They may not know your name, but they're definitely glad you came. Protect this gem of a place. It beats anything Bourbon St...
Read moreTo be clear, the one thing that saves this bar from a one star rating is the bar staff. They are French Quarter bartenders of the first water and deserve some praise. Two things make this classic New Orleans dive a total no-go. 1) The prices for cocktails are just too high; for the exact same price you could get a better drink in far nicer surroundings. 2) This one is a biggy; the place is Riddled with mold/mildew. For those with breathing problems, even walking past this place can trigger an event. If you have allergies, asthma, COPD, etc, avoid this place! (I hear some of you other locals groaning: but it's a dive bar! To you I say as I veteran French Quarter bartender, this one is beyond the limit. It is on a short list of bars in this city that I personally have to avoid so I don't die). Enter at...
Read moreMy experience was that I was not impressed. Most likely the hour that I was there, but mainly because the bartender was far from friendly and quite aloof. There were only a few people here and one that was super inebriated and appeared to be a local as far as I could tell. He told me that the bartender had a song on the jukebox and I asked her and she said yes and offered no other information. The guy who was inebriated started mumbling some incoherent jumble to me and I just nodded my head and just as we were about to leave someone came and picked him up. So we ordered 1 more cocktail and then realized that he had been the only entertainment likely in this bar and hurried to finish our drinks and left. I probably won't return to this bar as I find it sort...
