What an experience. Came in for fine dining, and got a hell of a show to go with it. We were seated by a wide-eyed man I'm guessing was the manager since every employee seemed to have to talk with him every 2 minutes. Our server was introduced to us, albeit I feel "saleswoman" is a more fitting title than "server". She told us about every item on the menu, taking special care to explain how the chefs on site were qualified to cook that meal. I, surprisingly, did not need to know that Chef had been cooking jambalaya since he was 6 in order to make up my mind. When we finally got through the sales pitch, we each ordered a meal, but only after the server tried to upsell the pricy sides (by making them sound like they weren't optional). Then, she ran back to the kitchen with our order, and so began the great wait. Waited well over 45 minutes just for the salads, stopped keeping time after that. Thankfully, as I mentioned earlier, there was a show to keep us entertained! The bartender was clearly baked out of his mind, and seemed fixated on throwing an orange up and down, up and down. I tried to keep track but got lost around 100 throws. Two of the servers seemed to be having an argument, but due to the steady stream of customers, the argument kept getting cut off while they sat the customers down. Then they went back at it till the next customer came. And did I mention that every employee felt it necessary to walk out of the restaurant every 5 or so minutes? I don't know where they were going, but judging by the grin they came back with, I'm guessing it involved psychoactive substances. Then came the grand finale of the show: one of the chefs got pissed off (or something) and walked out, so baked bartender walks outside, comes back 20 minutes later with a man who kept shouting about "the berries," and put him to work in the kitchen.
When we finally got our food, I was actually impressed by the taste and quality, so that's why you got two stars instead of one. The filet mignon was quite tasty, and reasonably priced. My only complaint after we got our food was that bartender buddy kept watching me eat my filet mignon...
If the owner is reading this review, you ought to contact me so we can get this sorted out. And if bartender buddy is reading this: keep blazin...
Read moreWow. I am writing this as I wait for a taxi outside Restaurant Rebirth because it was so good. I decided to come here for my 21st Birthday after reading about their pork belly. It was incredible. My mom and Grandmas had a seafood chowder type thing and they all loved it-I didnât eat it as I generally donât like seafood. I did start with a Riesling that was very good. Then, they sent us each complimentary fried oyster, birthday candle included on my plate. Again, I donât normally eat seafood of any kind but I decided to give it a try. I am glad I did-this is the first seafood anything I liked. Among my mom and Grandma there was a grilled shrimp salad, scallops, and the fish of the day-mahi-mahi. They all said it was amazing and very luxurious, and incredibly flavorful. I ordered the filet mignon, medium, with a side of the green beans. The chef said he didnât like the way he cooked the filet mignon, so he sent out the green beans and a gumbo to tide me over (though he managed to get the second steak out before we had all been able to try the gumbo!). I tried the broth, it was very good but I wasnât quite sure about trying everything as gumbo traditionally has seafood in it. But, I took the leap and tried a big bite-broth, rice, sausage, fish and whatever else is in gumbo. WOW. The green beans were the most amazing legume I have ever put in my mouth. The filet mignon? Buttery, melt in your mouth deliciousness. At this point I ordered a Bayou 75-a twist on the traditional French 76 (it has blackberry something or other). It was also amazing. As it is my birthday, we of course had to get some kind of desert. We let our waiter decide for us, and he brought us bread pudding. As he described it-it was very modern. It had orange peel shavings and strawberries. I did not like any bread pudding before I came here-but now I know two places with amazing bread pudding (Murielâs is the other if youâre curious). Overall, a wonderful experience. The staff was so kind, accommodative, and attentive. The atmosphere is incredible. The only bad thing about it: I donât live in New Orleans and canât come back to try more...
Read moreFirst of all, there is no reason to include an auto gratuity that is greater than 20% for a party of 5, and there was no indication of this anywhere on the menu. The service was not worth that, and we felt relatively underserved for the majority of the night.
Overall, it was very disappointing that our server was passive about a severe allergy, and that the food was subpar as compared to other times we have went. The staff seemed very scattered, and we watched the general manager freak out as the bartender decided to take a walk outside in the middle of service. Itâs convenient to go here if youâre staying by the convention center, but definitely not worth going out of the way for.
Iâm not sure if it was just an off night, but this was not the experience I remember when I last went. We were waiting outside for our table when it was clearly ready, and I finally went inside and asked. The general manager said he forgot to tell us it was ready, and we sat down at the table with no water nor menus for about 5 minutes or so. My girlfriend has a peanut allergy, so we alerted them on the OpenTable app, as well as telling them there. Our waiter insisted he had it under control due to his nephew having an allergy as well, but we continued to ask about what oil they used. Turns out they used a peanut oil blend, and the waiter told her to just eat around the fried things. The allergy is extremely severe and cross contamination is a problem. She ended up just avoiding the appetizers, and just ate dinner. Everything was just okay, nothing exceptionally good. The pork was under seasoned, the fish overcooked, and the steak was hard to eat on the cast iron skillet they bring out. The creme brĂ»lĂ©e was not set, and left our stomachs turning later in the night. I hope this place is able to bounce back, and maybe this was all due to the influx of people due to the Super Bowl, but at the end of the day that shouldnât really be an excuse to execute at...
