My wife and I just returned home from eating here for my birthday. To say that we were disappointed, would be a gross understatement. After seating us my wife realizes that her fork has dried up food on it, okay the dishwasher didn't get everything, explainable, when asking for another the waiter looked at it, took it and walked away with no apology whatsoever. After about 20 minutes our waiter and her new fork haven't been seen, to which point I just grab one off another table. At this point we have been there for about a half hour and still haven't ordered anything, so the next time the waiter walked by we waved him down so we could order a drink. While waiting for our drinks we were served bread with hairy butter, maybe a delicacy somewhere else, but I doubt it is in Forest Hills. At this point we start discussing other places to eat and ask to see a manager. The manager nicely comes over to our table and apologizes, tells us the drinks are on him and offers to make up for what's happened if we stay. After discussing it we finally decided to stay. We ordered the raw oysters, escargot, burratta salad, the porterhouse, creamed spinach, and garlic mashed potatoes for a side. The oysters were oysters were alright, the escargot were just okay, I've had way better and way worse, the barruta salad was by far the best experience we had while dining here, the porterhouse was overcooked and the most tough porterhouse I've ever ordered, as for the garlic mashed potatoes, they should have just named it mashed garlic with a sprinkle of instant potatoes. The creamed spinach tasted like it came from a can. Not wanting to give anymore complaints to the staff because the manager was going to "take care of us" we just said everything was okay and asked for the check. When receiving the bill we noticed that the drinks the manager were going to take care of were still on the bill, and the whole taking care of us equalled to 15% Off. So we told our waiter the $24 in drinks were supposed to be removed he consulted with his manager and came back with a new bill a whole $9 less then the last, because the manager took off the discount and comped the drinks. Smh what a birthday treat for me :-/ . If you choose to eat here hope your experience is better but if you are willing to drive a few extra miles for the same priced food just better quality go to S prime...
Read moreHad a reservation set for my birthday dinner on 8/27. I live in the area and my friends traveled in for eastern Long Island to help me celebrate. Last year we'd gone to a different restaurant but walked by this place afterwards and said it looked nice, the menu looks good and we should try this place sometime. Fast forward and we were all very much looking forward to dining here. My reservation was for 6:30 but my friends and I always like to arrive a little early and "pre game" with a couple of cocktails. We ordered a round of drinks and I will say the bartender was super nice and the drinks were really good! Unfortunately within the first few minutes we started to realize it was VERY warm in the restaurant and we could tell that the air coming from the A/C vents was not cold at all. I asked one of the waitresses, who had walked over to a serving/water station near the bar if she could have someone please turn the A/C up as we were very uncomfortable. I got a smile and a giggle so either she thought I was joking or just didn't understand what I was asking. Then not just one but THREE of my other friends all asked to please have the air conditioning turned up. We were there nearly a half an hour and not one person who worked there did anything to acknowledge or respond to our request. It was incredibly disappointing. Even more so was deciding to leave and when we told them why (again!), their response? "Oh, sorry". Sorry?!?! The polite (and professional) thing to do would be to apologize, at least acknowledge there's a problem and give a solution to that problem. Just saying you're sorry doesn't make it better. To my friends and I it wasn't worth spending a lot of money on a great steak meal if it feels like you're dining in a sauna. Again, it was just very upsetting because we'd so been looking forward to dining here and we felt as though the management and staff just didn't care to fix or acknowledge the situation. PS - We wound up going back to the (air conditioned) restaurant we went to last year (MoCA Asian Bistro) and had a...
Read moreMy wife and I came here to celebrate her job promotion. So we both agreed to go for a steak dinner. We are both locals but had never been to Aged, we usually go to CABANAS. So here is the break down of our experience here:
The Good: The wine selection was great and it tasted good My wife LOVES seafood and she was very impressed with the freshness of the oysters. The onion soup was good as well but nothing to rave about.
The Bad: Ok this might seem like a cheap shot-- but how can you tell a customer we can't offer you butter because it's cold. Staff wasn't bad, but not friendly.
The Ugly: When you're charging $139 for a steak I expect perfection. We ordered a Porterhouse steak medium-rare. When the server put the meat on our table we were not impressed by how the meat looked and less impressed by how undercooked it was. We were naïve to think that it would tasted better than what it looked. NOPE, the meat did not have any flavor to it (to be fair the waitress did offer to put pepper on it when she served it to us but a proper steak should be salted and peppered prior to cooking). In short the meat was inedible as it wasn't cooked right, and didn't have any flavor, we didn't get the delicious smell you get from a freshly cooked steak. Plus the texture of the steak was a combination of toughness and mushiness. In short it was just inedible. We sent the steak back to be cooked further, but we barely touched it and just packed it to go. The order came with 3 small sauces I think one of them was cilantro based.
Conclusion: We should've read the reviews prior to ordering steak from here. It's just a shame and criminal to charge so much money for mediocre food. But hey you live and learn. I was so disappointed, I told my wife that we could've had a spectacular dinner for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. Plus this experience soured our celebratory spirit that evening. My wife said that that's life not everything can be perfect, and I agreed with her. But it could've been perfect and that's...
