Tom Waits said, "The way you do anything is the way you do everything."
In the restaurant world, Mr. Waits's truth is applied at Aretsky's Patroon.
A restaurant whose wine offering is so spectacular, the food served could just pass muster. That is the last thing you'll experience at Patroon. My brother and I had dinner on October 3rd, and if the devil is in the details, the devil is also an excellent chef, sous, kitchen crew, bartenders, and floor staff.
The crab louie was perfect (beautifully prepared crab, herbs, avocado, and a sauce I'd buy by the jar (hint, hint)), as were the onion rings. My brother's burger - something I'd have to have taken apart and eaten with a knife and fork - had me briefly buyers remorsing. It was obviously something prepared with high quality beef, seasoned well, cooked not only to his liking but to ensure the meat was recognized, if you know what I mean.,
While neither of us cocktailed, the wine list is meaningful and the bar team knows what it's doing. I've had the privilege of attending jazz at the Rooftop Bar (upcoming performances include weekly in October and on November 21), where I have benefited from the staff's composing, mixing, and pouring skills.
Shouts must be made to Gene, Melissa, Jackson, and José Luis Condé, whose presence and actions make my visits to Aretsky's Patroon more meaningful and, obviously, better.
Aretsky's Patroon's aesthetics are simultaneously classic and modern - decor, design, comfort, service, vibe. The food is exceptional. The service is impeccable. I feel very grateful to be...
Read moreThis past week we hosted a family graduation celebration for our daughter at Aretsky’s Patroon in the Match Room and we could no be happier with how the event went. The food was beyond amazing! We selected the menu, and all the things we chose were fabulous. The crab cake I had as my starter is something I will be dreaming about, and will be the standard by which I measure all crab cakes from here on out. It was that good. The wine, the room, the desserts, all were just absolutely beautiful. The sommelier and service staff were kind and friendly, right there without hovering, and provided lovely service. The acoustics were excellent and we could hear one another well in the Match Room, an important reason why we had wanted to have a private dining space. Beyond the satisfaction that we could hear one another with ease, I felt the space was truly beautiful and very special feeling. A big part of our satisfaction with the grad lunch was how thoughtful and organized the private dining sales coordinator was in our correspondence. Victoria was super easy to work with, helped us plan for a wonderful and memorable event. If you are looking for a private dining space in Manhattan, I heartily recommend Aretsky’s Patroon, and would choose them again in a heartbeat for a special...
Read moreThis is a restaurant living up to its best self. It all begins with the owners, The Arestsky family truly embodies grace, class, kindness and good manners. They care. Something to be emulated for sure. All of their staff are fully present, all the time, and it shows. Ken and Diane are the epitome of class and genuineness (is that a word?). Then towards the end of our meal, their son Gene visited us. He asked us how our meal was? How our experience was? It wasn't perfunctory. His questions were genuine, not forced or trained. I said to my dinner companion: 'there is someone who was raised by good people, by parents that care" The food was almost an afterthought. But it was absolutely fantastic. The perfect meal for two: Caesar salad with the dressing made scratch at table. Followed by Crab Louis (delish) then a Tomahawk steak cooked medium rare, and brussel sprouts. It doesn't get better than this. Get yourself here and see what it's like when the people who run the place really care. Can't...
