Finally really good Malaysian/ Indonesian food in NYC!!! I'm still mad at myself for not getting some food to take out after we were stuffed. Inspired by another friend's glowing recommendation, ten of us gathered to feast up. First of all, the staff at Batik are lovely and gracious. Our waiter showed us photos of dishes on his phone and gave very thorough explanations of the food. The food was DELICIOUS with complex flavors and varying levels of heat. They even brought us a few different sambals and chili sauces. WHAT WE ATE: Roti canai** Taro spring rolls Gado Gado Beef Rendang** Hainanese chicken** Char kway teow** Crispy shrimp stuffed tofu** Fermented Tempeh Okra Belacan** String bean, okra, stink bean & eggplant belacan Fried Milk Fish with chili mango Water spinach Indonesian Fruit Cocktail** Pandan noodle dessert **Indicates our favorite dishes Must go back for the meatball soup, nasi lemak and the chow fun! Go to Rego Park it's down the block from the r train.

Stopped by on a Friday evening. They have a page of Malaysian food, and a page of Indonesian food in their menu. We tried the Bakso and Bebek Set from the Indonesian menu. We really liked the Bebek set with a lot of interesting sides included. The fried duck itself was crispy on the outside and juicy / soft on the inside. The bakso was okay, the soup was fine but the I didn’t particularly like the mix of glass noodles and yellow noodles, the meatballs were okay. The server was nice. It seems that they have both Malaysian and Indonesian chef, so we will be back to try the Malaysian food next time. Very glad to see more Indonesian food restaurants opening up!

The servers were nice. Guess it’s a new opening where friends and family were invited. Came in before a few people however we ordered 3 main dishes for 3 different people that came out 20 minutes apart. I was done eating while people in my party had not received their food yet. Took over an hour to receive all the entrees. Meanwhile the head chef was talking to her friends at other tables who came in after us and got their food. Portions were small and overpriced. Food tasted fine but nothing special. If you want good Malaysian food go to Pulau Pinang or Taste Good in Elmhurst.

Walked in got seated immediately near some boxes but we were hungry so we didn’t care too much. The place itself was nicely decorated. Got waters noticed something floating in my water asked to get it changed they did so immediately.

I put in an app and two entrees I got the roti canal and noodles in like 5 mins. The chicken for the noodles were cold in the stir fried noodle dish. The roti canai was decent and came out hot.

The last dish was the problem we waited around 40 mins finished all of our other food. The waiter goes to clear our plates and immediately I ask where the last entree was. We were still very hungry at this point. She had went to go tell the kitchen to make it and it took another 30 minutes just to get the dish. We had at this point already asked for the check and upon receipt the food comes. We prob would have stayed and it smelled and looked good but it was rushed back to the kitchen after we said we already cancelled. A missed opportunity to fix the situation. I know this place is still relatively new but they seem incredibly understaffed. I hope they do well because it is a family business and there is so much they can improve on. I think there is potential and maybe in a quick fix when I’m not starving I’ll give it a try. Was mainly upset to have to...

Not sure how this place has so many good reviews. Came here about a month ago on a Saturday during lunch. Lunch special prices were decent, until you see what you're given.

Ordered:

Roti Canai - see pic from someone's review, it was a few small chopped/diced pieces of chicken thigh pieces. The bowl of curry was less than 1/2 full. This was $9. Not worth it. Their fried fish filet lunch special. Was given one single filet (smaller and thinner than a McD's filet). This filet is like those store bought frozen fried filets that they also overfried bc it was just crunchy. And a bowl of rice. This was over $12? Biggest disappointment. Real value, maybe $3, and that's generous. Nasi Lemak- a few pieces of chopped/diced chicken thigh. Not even a whole thigh worth, maybe 1/3 of a thigh worth. This was over $12? Not worth it for the amount of chicken given. Char Kway Teow (spelling?). Most decent looking dish that looked freshly made. I didn't personally eat this but was told it was too salty. It did smell heavy on the fish sauce?

Decor was nice and staff were very nice but can't believe we were served this. Def not restaurant quality when we went. More like meals you quickly put together to feed a kid. Sounds harsh but was super disappointed...
