This place is RACIST & HOMOPHOBICâźď¸ I stepped in to place a takeout order and the tall male bartender was extremely rude, and difficult. I asked a question about the difference in 3 wing sauces and he kept cutting me off and said he doesnât know and just walked away from me as I was talking and he said heâs going to another person to take my order. He said âtheyâre all different saucesâ, as if I donât know that. I have 20 years of restaurant managerial experience. All sauces are different, but some may be different because of ONE ingredient, which is why I was asking for clarification. He has a major attitude with me. Another guy came over and took my order, but he had an attitude as well. My mood went to zero because I immediately knew they were treating me this way because Iâm a feminine gay black man. I felt extremely uncomfortable. I placed the order and the guy gave me the check and walked away after telling me theyâre cooking the food. I sat for a bit but I decided to head next door to a cafe to get some hot tea while the food was cooking. I came back and the guy met me outside screaming âWhat are you doing? Do you want the food? â He sees me with me coffee cup. I laughed and said of course. I just went next door to get some tea. I asked him why were they treating me this way? Was I suppose to sit there and wait 15minutes? He said âHey, youâre the problem. Do you want the food or no?â I said no! At this point, something is going on unbeknownst to me and I donât play about my food. He said âJust LEAVE! We DONT WANT YOUR KIND HERE ANYWAY!â This was an older white guy who looked 60-70 years old. I had such a beautiful day and was in the area, so I decided to try out this place. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Iâve NEVER felt this way before as a patron in any establishment here in nyc. This...
Read moreThis place needs some competition. It needs to know what it is and what it isn't. It's not bad but it's not good either. Definitely overpriced - especially the frozen drinks, beware. They don't list the prices, so only when you get the bill do you find out that the henny colada from a slurpee machine into a plastic cup is $20. Yes, 20 US dollars. You are a sports bar in Rego Park, not SoHo. Get over yourself. And why do the wings only come in 9, 30, or 45 pieces? And why do 30 wings cost $50? Also, I've had a side of fries 4 times, and 3 times they were soggy and pale. Today I had the chicken quesadilla, which was fine, but they give you a tiny blob of salsa and charge you $1.25 for the extra that you will inevitably need, and they give you just as tiny a portion. I'm sure they pour it out of a plastic jug. It's clear that they know they're the only sports bar in the neighborhood. If you have the time, go to literally any place on Austin Street in Forest Hills, you will get better food and pay less for it. 3 stars is honestly generous, it would be 2 if the staff wasn't as nice. I suspect the problem is the owner.
Edit: I guess the owner missed the part where I said it's the only sports bar in the neighborhood. We don't go there because we want to. We go when there's a game we want to watch in a bar but it already started and we'd miss too much by walking to Forest Hills. Any time we decide to go to Tropix, we do it begrudgingly. Also note that I gave 3 stars, that's not terrible. Your problems are fixable. Put prices on your drink menu. Stop charging $1.25 for a tablespoon of salsa. Cook your fries longer. Lower the prices of your frozen food by 8%. And most importantly, don't throw a hissy fit when your customers...
Read moreBEWARE IF YOUâRE BOOKING THEIR PRIVATE SPACE. We were seriously cheated of our money with all their hidden fees. Food was initially supposed to range from 16-18$ per person, but ended up being about 20$ per person and that was not including tax and the automatic 18% gratuity they add to your bill. Letâs talk about bottles. This was even worst than the food. There was a 2 bottle minimum to be in the private space along with the space rental fee. Doesnât sound bad, thatâs what I thought as well initially. I paid for two 1L bottles and noticed that they ripped us off giving us a 750 mL bottle for one. Mind you, they advertise around $250 for the bottles I purchased but after all the fees, tax, and automatic 18% gratuity, approximately 500 easily increased to approximately 675 for TWO BOTTLES. One that we received incorrectly at that. We were also asked questions regarding why we ordered more juices when they gave us two tiny pitchers to accompany two bottles. Of course we would need more juice and not everyone drinks alcohol so it was a weird question to ask being that we were paying for the juices separately.
The owner, Gary, was kind and understanding, but I truly feel like we were ripped off by their night staff.
I chose this place after a friend recommended it to celebrate my graduation party and all in all I had a great time with friends and family after the money aspect was put aside. But me personally, I will not recommend to any one of my friends and if you choose to book this place, proceed with caution and make sure you look into the bill, ask for clarification far in advance, oh and check those...
