Biggest waste of money for inedible foodin NYC, never been so mad at how bad food was for the price point.
I'm bewildered by how this place has an over 4 rating, it was by far one of the worst meals we've had in NYC, and insanely overpriced by how basic and terrible the food is.
Aside from waiting 30 mins and watching the table who sat down after us get their food first, everything was beyond underwhelming.
My partner got 2 orders of the jalapeno cocktail, while we enjoyed the kick, the first time was way too sour with nothing sweet to tone down the sheer sourness before the heat kicks in, the second time was less sour, it wasn't consistent within the same meal.
Then our entrees arrived, I ordered the pistachio salmon but was served the charred grilled salmon instead - barely any flavour in the dish, and was served a strange dill cream out of a plastic cup, nothing special about the shiraz salad. Why did we leave home for 17 dollars and a 15 dollar glass of wine.
My partners papperdelle with 'medium rare' steak was served in a piping hot ramken with the chopped up chunks of steak inside. Why did the serve bother asking if we like the steak medium or medium rare of it wasn't served on a side plate and frankly wasn't steak slices at all. The hot ramken overcooked the beef scraps sold as "steak" quickly, some of the vegetables were under cooked and some were overcooked, there was no sauce binding it all together, and the parmesan was preshredded plastic cheese from the supermarket. We couldn't even eat the rest, it looked like dog food in a dog bowl, for $36 a dish, this was absolutely embarrassing. We wouldn't have ate for sustinence had we not just arrived home from a long drive and flight.
We were lucky to get a table off to the side, seating is cramped and for the decore and cozy vibe, there were giant screens playing sports everywhere, was confusing, just like the food.
Dinner in total was over $100 dollars for both of us. Would you pay for plain unseasoned dry salmon that's the wrong order and pasta and extra for 'medium rare' steak in a piping hot ramken that you have to dig out and everything is brown and overcooked?
Someone who gave 5 stars need to tell us which dish and what was good beyond the standard menu burger and fries. Frozen pasta or Kraft would've done better, save your money for McDonald's,...
Read moreI normally wouldn't leave a one-star review for a bad night of service, but seeing other reviews for Bijan's, the dismal service here seems to be a serious pattern, so I wanted to contribute my experience.
First of all, the atmosphere is so lovely. It's one of the coziest restaurants I've been in. If the service was simply fine but not amazing, I might even come back. But the service was astoundingly bad. And reading the other one-star reviews, I'm a) surprised that Bijan's has stayed in business and b) skeptical of the five-star reviews or perhaps just confused why I was treated so poorly.
It started fine. We got water quickly, and appetizers were ordered & arrived. Then our waitress lost interest in us or something? We wanted cocktails, and it took maybe 20 minutes before we could even order them. We never got a water refill, and I had to resort to filling my glass from my water bottle. She never checked on us after the food came, so I had no ketchup for my fries. After we said we were ready for the check, I think it took about 30 minutes until we finally got to pay.
If the restaurant was busy, I'd be more forgiving, but there were only a couple tables. Our waitress kept hanging out with her friends at the bar and wouldn't so much as glance our way. I honestly don't know what I did to have someone treat me so poorly as a paying customer. We were polite and ordered apps, entrees, and drinks, and we had no special requests. I'm so confused.
The food was also nothing exciting. I'm not trying to totally trash this restaurant, so I'll say that I loved the smoked eggplant dip. The rest was okay. But the service was just so appalling that I had to write this review. We wanted to have a nice date night, and it made me sad how poorly we...
Read morePersian food is typically a very special treat that I'd recommend whenever you get the chance - just don't go to Bijan's for it. The burger and kebab would have been delicious if I were a dog, but as a human I struggled to get through them and would grade them just a step above "inedible". The highlights of the meal were the plain white rice followed closely by the cucumber slices and dipping sauce that came next to the chicken wings.
I'm in a very generous mood at the moment so would rate the service as "barely passable" (they took our order in a timely manner, brought the food to the table when it was ready, etc.). But the two waiters were entirely uninterested in all of the small things that waiters generally try to do to make your restaurant experience better then just staying at home and serving yourself (their demeanor was the far opposite of welcoming and friendly, they never came back after bringing any of the dishes to see if we were enjoying, never refilled water glasses wkthout being waived down and asked, left the "reserved sign" and a menu on the table the entire meal - at some point we just put them on the floor, didn't bother to look up from their phones to acknowledge us when we left ...you get the picture). You know what, on second thought I'm going to change my rating to "inexcusable" for a restaurant with their prices.
Dinner for 4 with two shared appetizers, a main dish for each person, and one drink each was $190 with tip.
The restaurant has been in the neighborhood for a while and was more then half empty on a Friday night (Grand Army two doors down literally had a line out the door) so it seems like we should have trusted our instincts when we arrived and skipped this one despite having made a...
