I was searching for some good soul food in Brooklyn and I visited The Soul Spot (July 5th). The moment I stepped in I couldn't help but notice how clean the restaurant was even the back kitchen area was spotless(yes im nosey) lol. Anyways the 2 young ladies were so sweet and helpful! When I say that everything in the restaurant looked delicious I didn't know where to start and what to get 🤤. I ordered the fried chicken meal with Mac and Cheese and yams, then I seen the curry chicken and I had to order that too with the rice and peas and the Kool aid😂. They are not shy with their portions! As soon as I got to the car I busted open the containers and started throwing down!!😂 EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS FROM THE CORNBREAD, THE CURRY CHICKEN, THE YAMS, THE KOOL-AID, AND THE PERFECT CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN . (Mac and Cheese is very different its not nasty but you should ask to try it before ordering it) The food was so good I went right back in and ordered more fruit punch, cornbread and 3 more sides of yams. My aunt had the oxtail, the okra!!🤤🤩 and salmon and she was instantly in love! This is hands down some of the best food I've had in the city! I will definitely be back and will spread the word that this restaurant is a must go-to!! I can't wait to go back to try more and thank you to the young ladies who worked that afternoon you both made the experience memorable!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem That Feels Like Home! Listen I originally walked in just for cornbread. I was in the area, looked the place up on Google, and thought I'd give it a try. The moment I saw the food, I started yelling to my friends (we were visiting from Toronto Canada) asking if they wanted anything because WOW. Every single bite was worth it. The food felt like it came straight from my Jamaican family’s kitchen homemade, flavorful, and full of love. That cornbread? Easily the best I've had in YEARS. No joke. I even bought two extra pieces to save for later... but ended up eating them because everything was just that good. I was so impressed I told my other friends staying at a different hotel to make the trip this place is worth it. Amazing food, great vibes, and warm service. Go support them you won’t regret it! Look at my pictures food sweet me bod bod I almost forgot to take a picture I had to play it off like I didn't touch the food 😅

I’ve had quite a few soul food spots here in New York City, and this has been the best one so far! Every bit of the plate you could taste the love and care that went into the food, and that’s the most important ingredient in soul food, love! This food is also halal and contains no pork which makes it accessible to the Islamic community. I’m a chef from Kentucky so I know soul food when I see it, and this place embodies that taste! The yams tasted like candy bathed in butter, yet I could tell there wasn’t an unhealthy amount of sugar added to them, AMAZING! The curry goat was succulent and tender yet well flavors. The Mac and cheese, y’all the MAC AND CHEESE, was to die for. Best Mac and cheese I’ve had up here and closest to what I enjoy from home. The only dish I wasn’t too fond of was the peach cobbler, and really only because I make mine with more peaches and less crust.

I told my brother about the good reviews online about this restaurant. He don’t work far from there, so he asked my son and myself to meet him by his job and let’s grab dinner(his treat). Things immediately went downhill when the young lady behind the counter (with a head wrap) didn’t greet us as customers. It was pure attitude. I over looked it because I really wanted to try the food. When we first went in, she was on her personal phone and hung up with an attitude. My brother and son came in saying how it smells good in there and the food looks delicious. She caught a huge attitude when my brother changed his mind about getting fish because they had no more left. He then asked about the fried chicken and she got snarky. I placed my order and went back to the car because I’m parked in the bus stop. I’m a retired Police Officer by the way, my son is an English teacher and my brother a lead electrician. Well I’m observing my brother and son coming out with bags of food and she’s yelling at him, “fuck you and your mother “. They were going back and forth with words. This young lady even came from behind the counter to confront my brother. She was threatening to call people up there to beat him up. I then went back in with my and he asked for the manager, she said she was the manager. He asked for a refund and handed her all of the food back. She slammed his receipt down and said it’s voided and they don’t need his business. They lost $108 because of her stink attitude. The other young lady was respectful. This young lady need to be fired and need to be careful of how she don’t know who people are. I’m not saying it as a threat but you really don’t know who people are. You can even be entertaining angels unaware. I was disappointed and disgusted. I gave it a 1 star for the ill treatment. I never got a chance to taste the food. We will never go back...

I’ve been ordering from this restaurant for at least a year now. The meatloaf and jerk chicken are my favorite. However the customer service could improve. There were times I’ve paid $40-50 for my food only for it to be missing items when it arrive or the sides are wrong or they give me fried chicken instead of jerk. I use to order my food for delivery online so there was no way to have my order corrected. I thought I could avoid this by just picking up my food. Well today, after traveling over an hour just to pick up my food, I arrive yet again to receiving fried chicken instead of jerk. I ordered the 2 chicken combo and selected jerk. The cashier stated that the meal comes with the chicken you choose and the other chicken is automatically fried. She said I’m supposed to call and request only jerk chicken. This information is not listed on the food apps nor do the additional instructions give you the option to state your preference for the second chicken if I wanted to do that in the future. I’ve called this restaurant multiple times in the past when my order was wrong or missing the cornbread. Either the calls don’t go through or no one answers the phone. She proceeded to tell me that I must keep the fried chicken because it was already put in my bag and she can’t take it back. I stated I should receive my jerk chicken because it’s what I requested and paid for but she still refused. So I was basically told I don’t get what I order and pay for. I must take what they give me instead. I am highly disappointed because I always try to support black owned businesses. I will never order from nor recommend this...

This is my first time ordering from the soul spot. I read through many reviews before I decided to order, there were some mixed reviews but I figured I’ll give it a try. I ordered four meals and some drinks which totaled to over $70 with drinks. I requested all white meat which is an option on door dash. Upon receiving my order I did not have any white meat in any of my meals. I immediately called the restaurant to explain what happened. I was greeted with a person who claimed they couldn’t find my order at first and then abruptly said “we don’t have that option do you want a refund” With an attitude . There was no apology there was absolutely no customer service and to be honest this is the type of professionalism that is needed for any business to survive in a global pandemic. Businesses are suffering everywhere and for me to want to support a small black owned business during a pandemic and receive this type of treatment it is very disheartening. I am beyond disappointed with the customer service I don’t even want to eat my food. If I do decide to eat the food that came very cold I will put another review at a later date. I hope the owner is able to read this message and take note that customer service is key in these times right now you will not survive ! your business will be negativity impacted and completely destroyed if your customer service is not up to par, good food is one thing but customer service keeps...
