I’ve been to many comedy clubs, and this one is by far the worst one I’ve ever been too, I guess I should of read all the one star reviews first before going there,,
It's truly an underground comedy club “it’s literally in a basement” so if you are in crutches or a wheelchair it’s not the place for you, let’s start with the cons and pros.
Cons: Not the fanciest or best looking venue/atmosphere.
Hard and uncomfortable chairs. Staff doesn’t seem very friendly or welcoming. No smiles or greetings.
I wouldn’t eat any food there by the looks of the place, or drinks, I think the safest is maybe the bottled water. Which has a weird brand to it that said village comedy club on it, and some 1 star reviewers wrote the drinks were being spiked before it was bought to the tables so I’m glad I ordered the sealed water bottle.
And this is the most con of all,, all the comedians were bad, and I mean really bad, not 1 single laugh from me and most of the audience wasn’t laughing either, seems these comedians are all brand new trying to start to be comedians.
The person I came with decided to order food when we got there which was about 6:15 in fact we were the only people there aside from a man and women that was already there, we got there 45 minutes before the show started to get good seats and to order food. By 7pm the show started and it was crowded with people and still no food, yet the tables in front of us all got there food before us even though they arrived late, I guess because it was a party/group of about 10-20 of school teachers they got preferential treatment, my friend complaint to the waitress about why the delay in food? Then the food arrived about 15 minutes later. They just simply forgot about us or didn’t care, and it was just nachos and cheese, you think they went to China to get it.
My friend asked to speak to the manager about the long wait for food, next thing I know we are paying and leaving the establishment because we were not enjoying the show, on the way out, the manager assumed my friend didn’t pay and yelled she didn’t pay, call the cops, which was totally uncalled for because we would never leave any establishment without paying, in fact I saw when my friend handed the credit card to the waitress and when the waitress came back with the printed receipt and I observed when my friend signed it and gave it back, the manager should of not assumed that she didn’t pay and should of first speak with the waitress before yelling “ you didn’t pay and shouting to the staff “call the cops.” It was embarrassing and uncalled for.
You want a good comedy club go to Gotham comedy club on 23rd street in Manhattan or to levity live inside palisades mall in west nyack New York.
Pros:
prices for tix wasn’t expensive compared to other comedy clubs, but I see why.
The manager did discount the nachos from the bill when my friend had 1st mentioned about the delay in food arriving….that’s before the manager assumed she didn’t pay.
In all fairness about the 2 drink minimum I noticed allot of reviews wrote that it’s a scam, rest assured it’s not,,, most comedy clubs do have a 2 drink minimum,,, and thats most likely because they have to pay rent for the establishment they have to pay the staff and the comedians. After all it is a business.
Anyway that was our experience at this place, I wish it would have been a pleasant one, unfortunately it wasn’t. And we will never return to it or...
Read moreWhen we purchased tickets, we were under the impression that we were seeing a show with 4 comedians. Over the course of 90 minutes or so, about 10 performers came on with short bits. Most comedians were amateur and some funnier than others. By the 8th or so performer we were ready for the show to be over. Personally I prefer a show that doesn't involve switching up the comedian every few minutes.
We were in the basement and it was packed tightly. They tell you where to sit and fill every seat. This means they could even separate you from your group and sit you in-between strangers. A young man was told to sit in the solo empty seat next to me while his friends were seated at another table. Be prepared to sit very closely to strangers. I kept wondering if the fire max capacity was exceeded or not and kept thinking most of us would die if there was a fire.
The drinks were TERRIBLE. They require a 2 drink minimum per person. We ordered 2 bottles of water ($6 each) and 2 Virginia bloody Mary's ($9 each) since I'm pregnant. These were the worst Bloody Mary's I've ever had. It tasted they like used cheap tomato juice and maybe a splash of pulpy orange juice. There was so much pulp in our Bloody Mary's that we ended up not drinking them. Others at our table also complained about the lousy mixed drinks. Do yourself a favor and order a beer instead of a mixed cocktail. They also include gratuity so we ended up paying $40 to drink 2 bottles of water, plus $50 for admission for 2 to be uncomfortably cramped to watch a mildly funny performance.
UPDATE in response to establishment: Yes we expected 4 true comedians, not the circus of 10 or more people getting on and off the stage after a couple jokes (most seemed like they had no experience and one had a language barrier).
We arrived a half hour before the show started and had to wait outside for 10 minutes. There were lines of people outside and lots of confusion. For some reason most of these people were not allowed inside until right before the show started. The people being seperated were there plenty early.
I do not expect to have the place to myself but I do have serious concern that the total number of occupants was exceeded creating a dangerous situation for patrons and employees. I suggest hiring a risk engineer to address safety.
Two people should expect to spend $100 at this show. The money would be much better spent being put towards a Broadway or even off Broadway show.
I am from out of town but visit NYC on occasion. I think it is sad that a business would accuse a patron of being a competitor instead of trying to listen to customers to better...
Read moreSo yeah my daughter and I were in Times Square visiting the city of New York🧡we were just about to check out some dispensaries and a random guy with a tablet in his hands stopped us and said if we would like to get tickets to a comedy club and that the show started like 30 minutes so they were $30 a piece and so I told my daughter nah we'd rather spend on what we were intendeding to do before he stopped us..and so he offered us two tickets for the price of one and we said ok we'll check it out. So we finally got to the comedy club which had a line of people standing on the stairwell and we were told that we couldn't proceed to enter the show until the people standing on the stairwell went in..so we stood there waiting and just watched everyone that was standing on the stairwell get let inside the show..so time was just going by until my daughter spoke up saying what is this are we going to be able to see the comedians after all we paid for some laughs😂but nothing was funny to us at that point..so my daughter spoke up and it created a domino effect lol the rest of the folks that were just standing and waiting started to fuss at the door guy lol😅he was like where did y'all buy those tickets from we all said a guy sold um to us off the streets he said that they were scalper tickets😂and since we didn't purchase from online we had to wait till there was availability since others had priority over the ones just standing around for at least 45 min 😭so it got kinda heated up causing the stairwell people to demand to get let inside or get a refund..the door man said that he would help us to get into another show so we all were like ok fix this we came for laughs🤣Not an inconvenience party🥳🎉 lol so we got offered to come bk an hour later..and after all that we agreed to it..we got bk to see the comedians and made sure to buy the required 2 drink minimum..and yes we laughed and laughed it all seemed like the joke was on us but it turned out to be a coolaid smile the entire time once we got in ..😆😂😅so yeah we enjoyed and hope to visit again🥳🤣🥰😂 Broadway Comedy Club is...
