It's been quite some time since I wrote a review but this little gem of a restaurant deserves it! :) Wasn't expecting much coming in to his new burger joint on the edge of NYC Chinatown. Really a burger joint next to Asian fare, how good could it be. I walked in and quickly decided to order a simple slider and a small order of fries because I needed to judge the quality of the meat and more importantly the flavor. The slider came out quickly and during the 5 minute wait the owner, Mary sat down and we had a lovely chat. She quickly told me that the meat was fresh and NOT frozen and made to order!!! A huge win in my book but the proof is in the taste test.
The slider arrived way to quickly and the aroma of the freshly fried on the skin fries was simply heaven! I had to sample a few fries and they were perfect, crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Mary was beaming and said now taste the slider!
Here in NYC when the word slider is mentioned, one would immediately think of the infamous belly bombers from White Castles, fortunately, the slider Mary's staff was the opposite! Grilled onions fresh, not dehydrated/reconstituted was grilled along with the meat patty (smashed) crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The potato bun is grilled separately and the combination was outstanding.
I took a minute or two to savor my flavors and Mary quipped shall I give you a moment alone with your burger??!?! LMAO. I turned to her instead and said, I came in expecting a mediocre experience and you flipped this around! I want to order a REAL burger now!!!
She had a special burger limited edition two 1/4 patties for a half pound of beefy delight and I had to top it off with a fried egg, just because it's available and a fried egg just makes a delicious burger that much more decadent! This one did take a few minutes longer and Mary took the opportunity to explain that for the three (3) weeks that this place has opened she has made quite a few fans! One of the fans even challenged her and her staff to make a unique combo of the amazing burger paired with a beautiful hand cut chicken cutlet fried to perfection!!! Now, why didn't she lead with this one 1st??!?
The 1/2 pounder supreme arrived with the fried egg it was such a beautiful burger (see attached). This was the ideal burger, the seasoning, fresh tomatoes and fried egg put this sandwich over the top. The slider was nothing in comparison, and the bigger patties provided a much heartier and even more flavorful burger. Did I mention juicy??!? I usually order my burgers rare to medium rare because more often than not, grill masters flatten the burgers so much all the fat and moisture is driven out of the burgers, not an issue here!!! This was a 10+ napkin affair for me, and I think Mary knew it was I kept wiping away...
I will be back and this time, I won't forget the Friend Chicken/Burger combo!!! Thank you Mary, I will...
Read moreUnfortunately was dissapointed with my burger. It's their soft opening week and hoping this review helps with them getting ready for the official opening.
I ordered the classic burger prepared medium and the cashier unfortunately did not know what medium was. I had to explain what rare, medium and well done are. He thought medium was the size of the burger. He did have a lot of energy and was being trained. He did bring the manager to me as there was no option on the register to get the burger cooked to a certian temperature. The gentleman who came, whom I assumed to be the manager, stated the chef only makes burgers one way and doesn't prepare it at medium or any other temperature. He said after it comes out "if you don't like it I will change it. " he did go inside and asked the chef and came back said only one temperature.
You can tell by the photos the burger was well cooked. I wasn't wowed by it. The special sauce they used was good but the meat had no flavor. I was only tasting the trimmings and the sauce and left my lunch unfullfilled.
The fries were cooked right and cripsy and good.
The manager did come and check on me and I shared what I stated above. He said he will share with the chef.
The place is clean and had many folks coming thru mainly it seemed for their Bubble Tea which they have up front called I'Milky. Looked good and had a steady flow of customers.
Note: the same cashier who took my order brought my order to the table where I was seated. He came with a great attitude and smile.
I will give this spot another try once they have their official opening and will try their chicken sando and hopefully their clasic burger will be available at different temperatures by then.
Good luck with the opening and...
Read moreI saw this place on a burger article and stopped by on a weekday afternoon to have something for lunch and dinner.
I was surprised to see a burger shop in Chinatown out of all the places, but after speaking to the owner, I understood the purpose since the owner wanted to revitalize Chinatown after the pandemic but didn't want to compete with the existing Chinese restaurants. Found this pretty cool.
The menu items were way cheaper than a lot of places in the city, so I can say that they are affordable.
Popcorn Chicken: Reminded me of Taiwanese chicken bites. Batter was crispy with hints of black pepper and spices. Chicken meat was super soft. Same batter as the Chick sandwiches. Homemade special sauce added fun to texture and flavor.
Sweet N’ Spicy Chick: Chicken thigh was big but it wasn’t overwhelming at all. Honey sriracha sauce’s sweetness and spicyness were just right. The spicy kick didn’t have me reaching for water but it was a surprise with each bite. Cole slaw did a great job of neutralizing the spicy flavor.
BBD Burger: Tried and true formula consisting of great meat, veggies, cheese and special sauce. Buns were grilled just right, the patties held enough juice to carry a flavor punch. Combined with the special sauce, there was a good amount of umami which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Seating might get a bit hectic around dinnertime since the tables are shared with a bubble tea shop sharing the same storefront on the other side.
I would definitely visit again when I'm around Chinatown. Highly...
