the small grill cart is parked on Grand Street, near the corner intersection with Christie Street. the whisks of smoke and flames from the coal grill can be seen and smelled as you approach. the small skewer cart is run by a older couple—one takes your order and the other runs the grill and makes sure those savory skewers don’t burn. there’s typically a small line whether it be day or night. the cart is open from 5pm to 1 am. the cart is not open on rainy days or nights. cash only, skewers run from $2-$3 each
there are handwritten signs full of meaty and non-meaty options. have had several skewers here. and nothing has disappointed. get all your skewers “spicy” (they’ll ask). my favorite skewer is the bacon-wrapped scallops—crispy scorched bacon on the outside, soft sweet butter texture of the scallops underneath, and the pop of spicy seasoning. beef tendon is so good—slightly crispy, gelatinous, chewy and beefy. at some point, i will remember to get the grilled corn or eggplant but the meatier options are so tempting.
the staff are super chill and are constantly multitasking so look at the menu and know what you’re going to order. no dilly-dallying. also if the idea of ordering food from a makeshift-like cart freaks you out then you are a fool and should be imprisoned in a failed...

From some slight eavesdropping I overheard “Lamb” as a trending topic, so I definitely participated in that group activity, then threw in a wildcard and went for “Chicken Heart,” both going for a very wallet-friendly $2/ea.
Just do it! If you’re unsure, ask the people around you… or just pretend to have the confidence of someone who can apparently speak Mandarin. Either way, the badass Skewer Team of Two were very friendly, communicative and made the somewhat intimidating experience, quite easy.
When you finally receive your meat (vegetarian options also looked pretty good) treasures, you can either enjoy them right there on the sidewalk and/or be like me and excitedly gremlin over across the street to the park, sit on a bench & just go to town like the beautiful carnivore that you - er, I - are… or am, whatever.

Read moreThis skewer cart has been added to Chinatown in the last few years, and has quickly become a staple. They exclusively sell skewers slowly cooked over coal. Each of the skewers range from $2.50 to $3.00 a stick and they’re all so good. I always get it with the spicy dusting because it’s even more flavorful. Love the chicken, beef and lamb. they all come with some cumin and some other variation of spices. My favorite is the lamb, so juicy 🤤🤤🤤 I could eat ten of them in one sitting. I recently discovered the enoki mushrooms wrapped in bacon, and they’re so good! If you’re a mushroom person, definitely give it a shot.
Highly recommend this cart to visitors and locals. It’s a #cheapeats spot.
Just be mindful of the hours. They’re open everyday after 5, except for when it rains. They’re run by a couple, so I love supporting them and their amazing...
