Amazing night on Friday. And let me just say, right up front, that my tastes are often more lavish than my budget and Caviar Russe is a prime example of that (4 stars instead of 5 only because this is not a place that I can afford to patronize very often!).. Nevertheless it was a great celebration with great friends and I am so glad we had the opportunity to GO BIG on this one. We had 3 types of caviar (our waiter was very helpful in pointing out which ones we might want to try - and he did not push us to the most expensive options which I appreciate). The presentation of the caviars with their various sides is fabulous. We also had oysters which were fantastic. Then we decided to have some a la carte dishes from the tasting menu - we all ended up with the scallops with truffles. SO GOOD. Note: none of the items on the tasting menu have a la carte prices listed - but don't be afraid to ask. We also ended up being comped a range of desserts - all of which were great but the baked alaska was especially fabulous - set ablaze tableside. SOME NOTES on our experience. At first we felt very rushed after we had ordered our caviars but had not yet ordered our dinners. The waiter hovered and would ask every few minutes whether we were ready to order. We finally told him he was making us feel uncomfortable and he explained that, if we order the tasting menu, the chef needs to know right as we are seated for planning purposes since the restaurant was fully booked that night (both the dining room upstairs and the bar area downstairs). Once we told him we would be ordering a la carte, everyone settled down and it was a great service experience. Now to the tab: $750 per person which includes a generous tip. I will also add that the portion sizes are VERY GENEROUS and they replenish items without being asked, e.g., the pancakes with the caviar. GREAT RESTAURANT but for me, this is a once in a blue moon experience (because...
Read moreThe vendor from whom I normally have caviar shipped has been out of service for the pandemic and so I tried ordering from Caviar Russe instead. Big mistake. I ordered well in advance and arranged for a delivery time that gave me three days margin of error and still I did not get my order on time. Though I purchased overnight delivery, the order (supposedly) arrived 8 days after it left Caviar Russe. And although I purchased a signature requirement, it was left with some random person - not that it really matters given that it was caviar floating around, unrefrigerated, for more that a week. I hope that person didn't eat it and suffer food poisoning. I do understand that things can go wrong with shipments, especially now, so the botched delivery may not be fully the fault of Caviar Russe (though, based on other reviews, this is a recurring issue so they may share some blame). However, I do hold Caviar Russe 100% responsible for its response to the situation and that response was terrible. I notified Caviar Russe shortly after the original delivery window was missed and again the following day. As far as I know they did nothing. In fact, they never contacted me at all except to send automated responses when delivery was made/attempted. Further, they did not respond to my requests for a refund; they did not even agree to refunding the delivery charge of $35.00. Fortunately my credit card determined that the terms of the sale were not fulfilled and so reversed all of the charges in full despite Caviar Russe's objections and lack of cooperation. This was a premium product for which I paid a premium price and I expect premium service to be part of that transaction. Caviar Russe was an extreme disappointment. I will not deal with them in the future and I cannot recommend that...
Read moreDont come here if you have concern about Covid19. None of the servers wear masks. We were cautious about this as we are flying in 2 weeks and have to go through some strict antibody tests, the whole trip will be delayed if antibody is detected due to COVID infection. We thought that social distance should be OK in Michelin starred restaurant therefore we came here to celebrate Chinese Valentines day. To our surprise, none of the servers wore masks. We became anxious when they frequently came to check on us,therefore brought up our concern and asked if they can wear masks when come to our table. The manager explained that all of their employees were fully vaccinated therefore they dont have to wear masks(dont they know vaccination only prevent severe symptoms but not transmission?!Vaccinations are also not effective with delta!),and in fact they dont even have masks in the whole restaurant🙃nothing they could do and we can leave if feeling uncomfortable. We chose to leave after chalking up the champaign we ordered. Feel sad as I was hoping this to be a perfect celebration for Chinese Valentine's day. Understand that we might be too cautious, but if you are like us and being cautious about the pandemic and the delta situation,DONT...
