Absolutely the worst place I’ve ever dined at in my life. I went there to grab a quick lunch and wanted to sit outdoors. The hostesses (or waitresses- couldn’t tell) said to grab a seat and she would be with me. The establishment wasn’t busy at all but waited over 5 mins for the person I spoke to take my order. She never came outside and I ended up sitting at the bar. Worst mistake. The bartender (white woman with stringy blonde hair and ugly tattoos on arms) was the worst and should be removed from the bar expeditiously. So while I’m at the bar, the bartender took my order which consisted of a mango margarita and shrimp tacos from the lunch section of menu. (I’m being specific as this will play a part later in the review). I received my drink and it wasn’t bad. But when I received my food, I noticed I received ONLY two shrimp tacos, instead of three. I asked for the menu because I thought I might have misread the details. However, after reading it again, I informed the bartender that I’m missing a taco. Immediately, she said (with an attitude) “oh no 3 tacos are for the dinner menu, not lunch.” I looked at her like she had three heads then looked at the menu and proceed to explain the menu specifically mentions 3 tacos for lunch. When she realized the “error”, the bartender said “oh that’s a typo”. Then she says something to a woman who was sitting at the bar (I assume is the manager) about the “error” and that person said “oh”, That was it. Although I was highly annoyed by inconvenience, I said ok and ate my food. During my time there, the bartender never asked me if I was okay or needed anything else. He customer service were terrible. When I asked for my bill, the silly bartender gave it to me and said “sorry for the typo”. Noticing the look of dismay and annoyance on my face, I told her that the restaurant’s menu is on the internet and mentioned my confusion about how it is a “typo”. She didn’t do anything to fix the error or made an attempt to. I paid my bill (w/o a tip) and left. I’m writing this review in hopes that this establishment will do better not only with their menus but in their employees’ customer service skills as well. As the only POC patron there, I didn’t feel welcomed at all. Instead, I should’ve stick with my initial gut feeling and avoid the place. I learned my lesson and I hope others will proceed...
Read moreI had to update my review here. I used to have this place as 5 star, but it seems to be going down hill. That saddens me.
I've been going here for approximately 4 to 5 years. I always thought it was better Pre-Sandy, but I was glad that it came back after Sandy. This used to be my goto spot for first dates.
Anyway, today convinced me that my old Cowgirl Seahorse is dead. In its place is a restaurant that still looks awesome, and still has the best nachos I've had in NYC, but everything else has lost its luster.
The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 2 is the fact that they still have the best nachos I've found in NYC. Their Hurricane Nachos are by far my favorite. Second Favorite being ones from Brother Jimmy's UWS that closed a year or two ago. The other Brother Jimmy's still have them, but not the same.
I got the nachos as usual, and my friend got the Lobster Sliders. That seemed like a great bet. However, what they did not mention on the menu was that it was the claw meat from the lobster. A lot of people may not notice that, but that's seriously the worst part of the lobster, and for $20, I think it should be noted on the menu.
It took 45 minutes for our food to come. If one has an hour lunch break, this place wasn't ideal. However, this might be a one-off thing, since normally they are rather punctual with cooking. The restaurant was busy, but I've seen it busier and never had to wait.
And finally, my major complaint, the staff wasn't friendly. I've always had the BEST service here. I've always felt like they appreciated me coming in. But today, me and the rest of the customers were a nuisance to them. There was one point that I almost got up and left. However, for their nachos, I toughed it out.
I would recommend this place if you REALLY love nachos, and you don't care about service or waiting.
I'm not sure I will ever go back, which saddens me because I've had so many great memories here. Maybe I'll try again sometime when I have an extra hour or two to kill for lunch.
One final note, in my old review I mentioned they had Pepsi products. They now have Coke products. Not sure if that...
Read more4.5 stars here. funky retro bar near the Brooklyn Bridge. Quirky interior of colored lights, non-matched lighting and exposed brick. Mix of Tex Mex and seafood menu. Proof of vaccination cards had to be shown upon entry. And all covid precautions in place here. Very personable server let us know of the specials and brought drinks. Went straight to the deviled eggs on the appetizer menu. We will try these anytime. They were a bit on the bland side having no real additions to the filling. But they were smooth, not too mustardy, and delicious. The wife chose the all chopped up salad, leaving out the avocado. Romaine, apple, tomato, pecans, Jack cheese and a lemon poppy dressing. She chose the grilled chicken option for some protein. Everything fresh, crisp and delicious. Enjoyed it very much. My entrée choice was the shrimp shack wrap. A flour tortilla filled with lettuce, tomato, and onion plus shrimp and a lime dressing and jalapeno tartar sauce. The shrimp was listed as fried but I asked our server if it was possible to switch that to grilled shrimp. And they kindly obliged. Also asked for the tartar on the side. As with the salad, all the veg wonderfully fresh, the shrimp were grilled perfectly and the lime dressing was a great compliment to the seafood. The tartar had little in the way of kick which was fine with me. Followed all this up with a very nice in-house produced key lime pie. Fun place with good food. What more...
