I was excited to get a new pair of pants, I had bought on sale at Everlane tailored. I had accidentally bought a few sizes too big because I trusted the size chart and it ended up being too big. I am new to the area and wanted a reliable tailor to fix them because they are striped and have some interesting pocketing. I made an appointment here and went only for the tailor to tell me it was going to cost $350 to take the waist in 6 inches. On the website it says $55+. I told him my pants didn’t even cost a fraction of that and that it’s only a waist reduction. He said it would be an entire re-cut and that costs at minimum $280. The pants cost me $70 so I said I wasn’t going to do that. I told him I’m an amateur seamstress and would rather just fiddle with them at home if it was going to cost that much. He scoffed at me and made me feel unbelievably stupid for not choosing to stick with him, as well as making it seem like he was doing me some favor by lowering it down to $280. I also got told by the receptionist that I wouldn’t be able to pick up the pants for 3 weeks if I got them tailored there. I left and ended up going to my local dry cleaners, Fidi Green Cleaners (90 William St), just to see if I was being crazy. I tried them on for the man there and he said it would be simple and cost $60. I was able to pick them up 3 days later and they fit like a gem. The pockets and stripes are perfectly aligned. Alts is NOT worth it at ALL! Go to your local dry cleaners and if you’re in FiDi go to Fidi...

I'm very THANKFUL!

I purchased a new dress that was a few sizes too big, so I took it to a tailor duo with five-star reviews on Google and Yelp. Unfortunately, the experience was awful, and they charged me an outrageous $575 to alter the dress! With only 24 hours to fix it before my event, I was desperate.

Since my husband was picking up his tux at Alts at the South Street Seaport in NYC, I decided to take a chance and asked Yaser, the head tailor there for help. It was just 45 minutes before closing, and somehow, he managed to fix my dress perfectly. I understand that altering a size ten dress down to a size 4 is no easy task, but the tailors on Hudson Street should never have charged me so much for such poor craftsmanship.

Yaser saved me. As a board member, I had to wear green to the gala, and this was my only green gala style outfit. With a flight from NYC to LAX the next day at 2 p.m., I had no time for errors. Without an appointment and just minutes before closing, the Yaser removed the sleeves and adjusted the dress to fit me flawlessly. It no longer looked oversized and fit perfectly. And he only charged me $185!

I’m still upset about the money and time wasted at the other place, but from now on, I’ll only be going to Alts at the South Street Seaport. The customer service was exceptional, and so far, they’ve altered seven of my outfits to perfection. I...

Yaser did a PHENOMENAL job completely reconstructing a jacket for my dad. Originally, the jacket fit so poorly I was going to make my dad return it, if it weren’t made of such a gorgeous fabric, BUT Yaser saved the day! He took the jacket apart and perfectly tailored the sleeves, arm holes, back, and sides. He even matched the original hand stitching identically! Truly incredible work (with an excellent turn-around time). This jacket went from something that honestly offended my senses to one of to the best-fitting, best-looking jacket my dad owns. Worth every penny to have this done!

Once seeing Yaser’s attention to detail, and enthusiasm for his craft, I asked him to construct a new bikini for me with gold hardware taken off of one of my mom’s favorite bikinis from her youth (the bikini was completely deteriorated, but she had held on to it for sentimental reasons and the hope I might be able to repurpose it some day). He was so excited and came up with an excellent plan for executing the idea (better than what I was thinking). I can’t wait to pick it up!! TLDR: 10/10 would recommend a trip to Alts if you have anything that doesn’t quite work before you part with it. The work they do is truly magical! I will loyally be coming back for any and all future clothing...

Me Win and Esmeraldo were terrific. I brought my dad’s 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Series Champion jacket, a piece of clothing he wore regularly for a team he remembered nostalgically. Since he died 18 years ago, it wasn’t worn. I wanted to have it taken in so I could actually wear it, but I knew I needed tailors who were up for the challenge since it’s a priceless item for me. I took a chance on Alts, and from the very first moment I walked into their office and met Me Win, I knew I was in good hands. They moved the shoulder seam, took in the side seams, and shortened the sleeves. It looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to wear it and remember my dad who loved it.

Where do I begin! I came in on my wedding day with a bridal emergency, and the team truly saved the day. They were incredibly gracious, calm, and accommodating during such a stressful moment. MeWin worked her magic and did an amazing job fixing my dress quickly. I honestly don't know what I would’ve done without them. To top it all off, they even surprised me with a thoughtful wedding gift, which was so kind and unexpected. Thank you to MeWin, Frank, and the entire team for your warmth, professionalism, and support. You turned a potential disaster into a beautiful memory, and I’m forever grateful!
