I'm very disappointed in tonight's experience at Daddy'Os. This has been my third time here since they first opened, and this was by far the worst.
First off, they were incredibly understaffed, or at least it appeared that way. I had to flag someone down after 10-15 mins to receive a beer list and menu.
The gentleman apologized as he thought I was being taken care of. I was finally greeted by the bartender, I order a beer, they unfortunately didn't have that specific one, I asked for another one then knew what I wanted to order for food.
I ordered the macaroni and cheese balls, which was a big mistake. The food took forever, and when I finally got my order, they were luke-warm and cold in some parts in the middle. I had to wait a few minutes to get the attention of the bartender to let her know. She sent it back and then returned and asked if I wanted a fresh order.
Not wanting to take the chance for them to be cold again, I instead asked for the 5 cheese baked macaroni and cheese. That was an even bigger mistake. Not only did I wait for over 40 minutes (the same gentleman came over and apologized for my food being cold and for the wait time for my new order), but what I was served was a complete joke.
It wasn't baked. One of the "cheeses" was sprinkled parmesan that you put on pizza, and it literally looked and tasted like the boxed Mac and cheeses with the orange powder.
I swear the kitchen staff was messing with me. It's like someone walked over to Key Foods and bought the boxed Mac and cheese as a revenge tactic for not only sending my food back, but for putting in a different order.
I was waiting for over an hour total for my food and was so hungry at this point. I ate probably less than a quarter of it and couldn't stomach it any further.
It came with corn bread too, and that tasted terrible as well. It certainly wasn't fresh baked from their ovens. That was likely store-bought as well.
When the waitress saw I was done, I asked her for the check and she asked how the food was. I told her, "I know this is not your fault, but,"
And she said, "talk to me," so I told her what I thought about the food. She went to what appeared to be the kitchen area, minutes go by and another woman comes over and I thought she was just clearing my plate saying, "Let me clear this for you," but she apparently said, "We're going to take this off for you," because the original bartender came back over and told me I didn't have a bill.
I ordered a bottled beer and the Mac and cheese. I could have been a wicked jerk and left no tip, but I left something for the bartender. I told her that I appreciated the bill being taken care of.
No one apologized about the quality of my food when it came to the Mac and cheese experience. I'm very disappointed with the customer service I received all-around. They tried to be courteous but the attitude was hard if that makes any sense. Maybe Staten Islanders will know what I mean by this.
When I got home, my stomach felt sick as the food didn't agree with me.
Needless to say, I will NOT be returning to Daddy'Os ever again. I'll go across the street to those joints instead and to Flagship for their beer.
You guys need to properly have a full staff and cooks who know how to cook. The two gentlemen next to me were also waiting for their food forever, and ended up asking for it to go because it took so long.
I'd really appreciate an updated response from the owner as I clearly explained why I rated DaddyO’s a single star.
I'm not joking about this. I went to see what the Mac and cheese is supposed to look like by going on Yelp and here on Google and the Mac and cheese in the photos did not look like the Mac and cheese I received.
UPDATE: Hey Greg, I never saw this updated reply until now. Google mobile hides updates as you have to click on them.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about saying I “went all over the internet.” I only posted on Google and Yelp.
Anyway, all I wanted was a “sorry,” from you or you’re looking into the matter. I don’t think it’s too...
Read moreSo I went for Father’s Day. It’s a new spot I figured that's why it's empty on a Sunday at 7pm but I dno . I figured I’d try it. First let me say the service was great the waitress. I think her name was Alyssa. She was fantastic. I ordered the brisket combo. Usually when I get brisket at a bbq place it’s a big slab of brisket, this was very thinly sliced. If I wanted it thinly sliced I would’ve got it on a sandwich. It was also very dry and gray pretty fatty but whatever . The mac & cheese they say is five cheese mac & cheese. Listen I’ve been eating boxed craft mac & cheese since I was a little girl. I know what boxEd mac and cheese taste like they sprinkled breadcrumbs on it to make it look like they made it on their own, maybe they did I don’t know, but it’s very, VERY similar to the boxed kraft mac & cheese. The potato salad I thought it was great except the fact that it had green apple in it I’ve never had potato salad with green apple in it. I was not a fan of the green apple, but the rest of the potato salad was really good. The owner asked me what I thought of everything. I told him I wasn’t a fan of the apple kn the potato salad and that everything else was good because I didn’t wanna hurt his feelings . Would I try this place again possibly maybe a year from now when they get their things together. I was also highly disappointed because I’m fat lol & I like dessert. I don’t understand how a bbq place has zero desserts they said they "don’t have the refrigeration for it right now” u can't put an apple pie or some cheesecakes in a refrigerator or even tubs of ice cream? but ok. Like I said, they just opened so I’ll give them another try about if they are still there in 6 months or so . Also, we got coleslaw, which is the generic tubs of coleslaw that any bodega gets. I just feel like if it’s a barbecue place you should have homemade potato salad and homemade coleslaw. Their potato salad was homemade obviously because it had green apple slices in it, the coleslaw was generic coleslaw u can get at any store it comes in 5 gallon tubs. We also got these chicken eggrolls. They were fantastic. That was the one thing I was really impressed with the waitress recommended them and I’m glad she did. . Then my boyfriend got the Staten Island bomber sandwich, he couldn’t eat it because the sauce that the pastrami, the pork and whatever else on that sandwich is covered in was so sweet. It was like maple syrup, caramel n sugar, just straight sugar. It was so sweet. It made his teeth hurt i thought he was overreacting till i tasted it. You couldn’t eat it , the corn salsa is supposed to be served cold. It was hot. Not a fan. I always had it served cold. But the cornbread i reeeeally loved. I feel really bad because I was really looking forward to this place but I have to be honest. I’ve written like 4 reviews my whole life. Always honest with all of them. The ice tea was nice, the Coke that my boyfriend got was watery so I guess they were running low on the syrup. I don’t know. I wasn’t impressed, but everybody was really nice. I always give my honest opinions. I think they just need a little more time to get themselves together and it might be a...
Read moreDaddy O's was a restaurant I remembered from my days living on Staten Island. They were amazing back then - I couldn't imagine them being anything other than delicious, now. Luckily, their new restaurant on 4th Avenue is only a short stroll from our current house. The man and I decided to give the new location a try, on Date Night.
We walked in around 6:15pm and only one other couple was in the restaurant. It was dead. That broke my heart, because this place is set up for "Game Night". This place is set up for crowds. This place is not meant for silence (other than the upbeat music playing in the background).
And I read the reviews; Some were far from flattering. Frankly, I didn't buy it. I didn't buy the negativity. I know this restaurant's potential because I've dined at this restaurant back in their hay day. I needed to see this restaurant, for myself, at their new location.
The man and I were greeted by the sweetest waitress. She handled our drink orders and explained everything on the menu to us. We weren't interested in appetizers, tonight - We wanted the meat, and make that a double. The man and I both ordered the 1/2 Rack of St. Louis Ribs. His sides were Brussel Sprouts and Coleslaw, my sides were mashed potatoes and coleslaw.
Fifteen minutes later, another young lady brought our steaming-hot orders out to our table. Our waitress checked in with us to see if we needed refills (we did) and we dug in to our entreés.
The ribs were PERFECT. Very tender but not fall-off-the-bone tender. Although they offered a house barbeque sauce to go along with the ribs, they didn't need an ounce of it; They were seasoned perfectly. Not too little, not too much. Of course, this didn't stop my Man from basting his ribs in the savory house barbeque sauce that was generously supplied to our table.
As far as the sides went: The coleslaw was dressed in a vinegar-passed dressing that was shockingly divine! The brussel sprouts were delectable, as well. Mashed Potatoes could have used less milk and more butter, but I happen to be a mashed potato snob, so maybe other people would find them fine, as is.
The corn bread was a delightful ending to such a delicious platter of cuisine. Sweet, moist, rich - Perfect.
The total for the bill was reasonable. Affordable.
On our way home, we passed the restaurant's kitchen door. The man and I easily cheered at the kitchen staff "Gentlemen - Tonight's dinner; Bravo!"
We're definitely intending on...
