If you have a craving for some baked goods, this shop will take the edge off, but compared with other New York bakeries the quality of the baked goods is sub-par. The best pastry that you can get here is the pistachio baklava, it is made fresh daily and usually sells out by noon. The next best pastry that you can get is the chocolate stick, which is covered in chocolate and marbled with chocolate on the inside. I have not had any luck with the danishes. Either they are day old or not flaky enough. When it comes to cookies, they have Italian style ones, which you can get a mix of for about $14. The lindzer cookies have a good taste but there is too much jam in between which makes them unbalanced and messy to eat. The chocolate chip cookies are actually sugar cookies with chocolate chips on top. They taste too sweet and don't have enough chocolate. I don't believe the bread here is baked on site. It is sourced from wherever the local cherry valley supermarket gets it's bread from. The baguette is good but a bit thin and uneven. The Italian bread is good as well. Finally, I have not tried the cake here, but it seems the cake business is booming here. This is the main source for cakes in the neighborhood.

Been living around this neighborhood my entire life and decided to give this a bakery a try based on the stellar reviews. I needed a cake urgently and it seemed that this place had a strawberry shortcake ready in hand. When I went it and saw how it was one of the only two cakes they had, I was reluctant at first since I assumed it might have been sitting there for a few days and wouldn’t be fresh. I still took a gamble, and when I tried it, I was pleasantly surprised. I’m not a fan of strawberries in my cake by any stretch of the imagination, but this cake completely changed my perspective on strawberry shortcakes! It was nice, creamy, fresh, and delicious. My family members loved it as well and complimented my choice. I’ll definitely be coming back to this bakery in the future for cakes!

What kind of person plans a 2 hour trip to queens to buy cake? A fanatic, someone with too much time, or a foodie that appreciates the hometown feel and delicious tasting baked goods. From the outside, it looks like any local hometown, very understated. But 9 times out of ten, anything you buy and eat as soon as possible sends you back into a time where a pastry or cake stood on its own based on taste and texture versus fancy presentation. The strawberry shortcake and black forest cake are a must buy and eat. Please not the shelf life seems to be short so you must buy and eat right away. I also tried the apple pie, still good, although felt could have used more filling. I also tried the croissant, cheese danish, and baklava. All really good.

Bakery has been open for 30+ years for a reason. Strawberry shortcake is absolute THE BEST around. They have the absolute best cookies, hands down. Shortbread chocolate chip cookies melt in your mouth. Chocolate cupcakes... these crack cupcakes have been a guilty pleasure since I was a little kid - I honestly prefer the simplicity of these cupcakes over the mainstream martha's or crumbs (if still open). Apart from the cookies, cakes, and eclairs, I can't say much as I haven't tried anything else but they do always have samples of different sweets on the counter. My fiancee and I both grew up in the neighborhood and absolutely agree that our wedding cake is coming from Du Bois. We already get all our birthday cakes from here no matter who it's for so it only makes sense. Loyal customer for 20+ years back when it was the 2 dutch/french...

This bakery has been one of my top favorites for almost 30 plus years. I’m extremely picky when it comes to pastries and cakes but each birthday I always request a strawberry shortcake from Du Bois. It’s fresh, fluffy and just perfect. The baguette is fresh and soft and the cookies are my favorite since childhood. The pistachio baklava is so good! Don’t let the emptiness from this bakery fool you sometimes it’s not as busy as the other more popular bakeries but trust me everything is fresh. Customer service is 10/10. If you need a specific type of cake or request I recommend you tell the owner specifically what you want and he will do the best he can! Owner is super sweet and baked goods are amazing and prices are always great especially in this economy! I will keep supporting this...
