Eataly - SoHo — Restaurant in New York

I want to start out by stating that anybody can serve,, but not everyone can provide hospitality the way Kristen, Simone, and Antoine did for my family this past weekend! I visited the new location about two weeks ago for the first time, I wanted to introduce my family to one of my favorite Italian restaurants! My daughter loves pasta so I bragged about Eataly and how amazing the service and food was. Unfortunately on this night something was off… Simone, who’s the manager of the restaurant, must of noticed and came to my table to see about our confusion.. the atmosphere was off, the service was off, and the food/drinks weren’t on point. Simone offered to pay for our meal but i insisted in paying.. Here’s where hospitality with empathy plays a huge part, we got an email that same night from Simone inviting my family and I back to Eataly for dinner. Reservations were made and from the moment we showed up till we left it was nothing but honest hospitality with a warm welcome! Our server Edwardo was awesome! He already knew how to accommodate us! Kristen the bar tender knows how I like my White Russians 🥲!! Best drinks we’ve had in a while!!!!! SIMONE did not leave our table just making sure everything was perfect and gave us some recommendations and sold us to the new items on the menu like THE TRUFFLE BUTTER PASTA! 🤤 we also had an Affogato and mix berry gelato for dessert! Antoine who’s director of sales for Eataly sat with us and told us about his mission for this fairly new location and how important hospitality is to him for his guests! After dinner we scouted the restaurant and unbeknownst to us there was a whole market downstairs where you can purchase items for your household or food.. I was really overwhelmed with the way Kristen, Simone , Antoine and Edwardo just rolled out the red carpet for us! Everything and everyone plays a roll in hospitality from the hosts, to the servers, chefs, runners and bussers! Was really looking forward to this location as I live within walking distance and frequently visit the flatiron and downtown locations.

It’s clear that they're having issues with opening with an amateur wait and cooking staff.

The service was terribly slow with it taking over 20 minutes just to get the bread which they charge you for unlike their flat iron and downtown locations - the bread was hard, so major disappointment.

The fried calamari appetizer, while appreciatively, not overly salty the way most fried calamari appetizers are was missing that crunch, the calamari and zucchini were still squishy, clearly under fried.

The butternut squash ravioli was also undercooked. The interior was extremely bland. My wife’s tagliatelle bolognese, which she's had multiple times at the flatiron location was not only undercooked, but the meat itself had a weird sort of rancid smell, which has been echoed in other reviews.

The tiramisu dessert was the highlight of the meal, and the coffee was also good. They get two stars on the fact that they filled my wine glass over what they usually do but I’m assuming that was because they were simply finishing off the bottle.

Our waiter routinely disappeared, and was clearly handling way more than tables than he should’ve been.

Throughout the course of our meal, multiple incorrect dishes were brought to our table which we had to inform the server were not ours and we witnessed the same scenario play out at several tables around us the only difference is that those other tables took the dishes, then complained, so a lot of wasted food.

They really should’ve done a test run the way most restaurants do with friends and family to ensure that the food and service is up to par.

The crowd was comprised of mostly tourists, a shame since if this were done properly, it would definitely be a locals hotspot.

Would be more than happy to give them another chance if I were invited back by the restaurant on a test meal, but in terms of actually paying for food, never again at...

The selection of cheeses and cured meats at La Piazza, paired with a glass of Italian wine, provided a delightful interlude between courses.

A noteworthy aspect of Eataly Soho is its commitment to sustainability. The emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients and eco-friendly practices is evident, aligning with the global movement toward more responsible and conscious dining.

The staff at Eataly Soho are not only knowledgeable but also passionate about the food they serve. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with genuine warmth and guided through the culinary offerings with enthusiasm. Servers were attentive without being intrusive, ready to offer recommendations or answer any questions about the diverse menu.

I could not love this place more! 5 stars...
