Quite literally one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had in the city. It started out fine the atmosphere was nice and the location is cute but that was the only redeeming qualities. We ordered our food and it took over an hour for 3 plates to come out (two of them were toast and one was a salad). The restaurant was definitely busy but not packed to the brim and yet they could not deliver any food. The waitor never came to check on us we had to flag him at a half hour and he said should be done soon and then at the hour mark we asked him to check on the food again and he went downstairs and brought it right up. The french toast was so cold the food had clearly just been sitting there waiting to be brought up. I got the avocado toast and I honestly couldn't believe what they brought me considering the high ratings here. I really wish I had taken a picture because it was quite literally half an avacado just scooped out and put on the toast still in the shape of the avocado. There was nothing on it except for that plain avocado- no salt, seasoning, oil it was just dry toast with an avocado. The worst part of the plate though was the beet hummus. Beets are usually pretty earthy and can have a bit of a dirt smell - but when I tell you the hummus smelled RANCID. It was smeared on the plate so luckily my dry toast was saved because the hummus smelled like sewage. Finally someone came to check on us and we let her know the service wasn't up to par and the food wasn't cutting it either - she brought us back the bill with 25% off. Near the end of our meal our server also left the restaurant so to actually pay we had to go get someone because no one would pick up the check. There were so many opportunities for the restaurant to make it right, and if our waiter had let us know at any point "hey the kitchen is backed up so sorry it's gonna be a little while" I would've felt fine waiting but we were just left to sit for over an hour. I was so disappointed because the reviews here seemed good, but I will literally never come back and make sure my friends...
Read moreFrom the moment I stepped into Citizens in Soho, I knew it was going to be a special dining experience. Their philosophy that food can be both simple and delicious truly shines through in every dish and sip.
I started off with the Velvet Latte and the On Cloud 9 cocktail, and both were nothing short of magnificent—beautifully balanced, flavorful, and crafted with such creativity that they instantly set the tone for the rest of my meal.
The Belgian waffles were a dream—light, airy, and perfectly golden, with just the right touch of sweetness. The cast iron chorizo eggs were absolutely divine, a bold and savory dish that showcased freshness and flavor in every bite. I also thoroughly enjoyed the salmon egg toast, which was a perfect combination of richness and delicacy.
What elevated the entire experience was the staff. They were not only attentive but genuinely hospitable—accommodating every request with a smile, making me feel welcomed and cared for throughout my visit.
Citizens truly captures the essence of what dining should be: fresh, fun, creative, and delicious. It’s the kind of place where every detail—from the ingredients to the atmosphere—comes together seamlessly to create a memorable meal.

Read moreTOTALLY RECOMMEND. I've been here once and the Chelsea location twice and I always find it a nice place to bring out-of-town friends.
Everything is very pretty and tastes amazing. One thing though is that each dish is not very big so for three very hungry girls, we split four items (and got crazy full from it, we had to play rock-paper-scissors to finish it).
Breakdown of all the things I tried on the menu: -bbq brekkie bowl 5/5 Highly recommend. I was afraid the pulled pork would be too sweet but somehow it works rlly well -banana bread French toast 5/5 Omg this thing is amazing. I got it twice. I usually want something savory in the morning but I would still get this. -cast iron baked eggs 4/5 Flavors were amazing. Portion rather small. -cheddar biscuit breakfast sandwich 1/5 I'm from the south so I'm picky about my biscuits and THIS WAS NOT IT. Them things were rocks. -beef brisket hamburger My friend got this and idk if it's cuz I'm not THAT big on burgers, so it was p good to me but not anything amazing -fries with yuzu aioli Pretty solid, nothing too amazing
