I stumbled upon this hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant and was absolutely blown away. If you're into authentic Chinese crepes, this is the place to be.
The prices are super reasonable, especially considering how fresh and delicious everything is. I highly recommend trying the millet congee paired with one of their freshly made crepes – it’s a combo that hits the spot every time. The crepes are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, loaded with tasty fillings.
Service here is fantastic, too. The aunties running the place are incredibly nice and make you feel right at home. They go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need, offering suggestions and explaining the menu items with a smile. Their warm hospitality really adds to the whole experience, making it feel like you're dining at a friend's house.
Overall, if you’re looking for some amazing, authentic Chinese crepes at a great price, this little spot is a must-visit. The combination of delicious food, reasonable prices, and exceptional service from the friendly aunties makes it a...
Read moreI finally visited Eight Jane in downtown Flushing the other day. It's been on my list for a while and I had some time and was nearby and peckish. The menu is completely foreign and indescipherable (Chinese) so I asked for the 'regular' and the ladies laughed. After forking over $6 and answering some questions about toppings (I told them to load me up, spicy yes cilantro yes everything please!) I was told I'm order #3.
I stepped away from the window and watched as the woman at the griddle scooped generous creeps and spread them out expertly, deftly moving the batter around to edges creating crispy thin layers folded over some kind of pork product, and a bunch of unknown veggies and something delightfully crunchy!
They called my number and I was handed this package, warm in my hand and smelling delicious. I'm not sure if Jiang bang is traditionally a street food but eating this walking along Main street felt right.
Overall 10/10 experience and I'll certainly be bringing people here on future iterations of my...
Read moreMileage may vary, but this is a place you need to know Chinese otherwise you’ll have trouble ordering and be up charged if you’re a foreigner. It’s dirty and cramped like most places around this area, and the staff weren’t very friendly or helpful if you don’t speak Chinese.
While the food is cheap, I ordered a jianbing just like Joshua Weissman to sample, but my review is going to be very skewed because I did not get to eat it while it was hot and fresh. When I returned to my hotel room to eat it, the wonton crisp/chip inside was already soggy and it basically tasted like a bad enchilada when reheated. The flavor of the beef was good, but the whole dish was definitely a mediocre experience by the time i sunk my teeth into it.
Not really recommended unless you’re eating it then and there after you order. Also if you’re a foreigner, be careful about them up charging you when they have clearly...
