We were looking for something nearby and found EJ BBQ Sushi based on their great reviews. We were a bit taken aback when we arrived at the front door as itâs not fancy at all and the table was a bit sticky. The waitress was very attentive and accommodating â except when we were looking to get the check which took 15 minutes â not sure why, it wasnât crowded. The fried pork gyoza was good and so was the miso soup. Miso soup usually only comes with an entrĂ©e but they comped us a miso soup even though we ordered a la carte. We enjoyed the California roll, American sushi (special ordered tuna salmon yellowtail) and beef japchae. The portions and sushi quality were good. The beef on the japchae was very tasty and came with the usual comped Korean side dishes of spicy and pickled items. The mango mochi wasnât very good so weâd definitely skip that. It was affordable and a great choice for nearby FIT students (who will also get a discount). We would return if we were in the area and looking for affordable sushi but would not go out of...
Read moreIâm well versed with Japanese and Korean food, and EJ BBQ & Sushi stands out with their attention to quality and execution. I got the salmon teriyaki lunch box, and it came with side dishes, rice, and soup. The miso soup is evidently made from good stock, the side dishes have a homemade and clean taste profile (aka flavors are not muddied), the fried dumpling was crispy and not greasy, the salad was refreshing (although the greens were a bit wet), the salmon was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin, and the teriyaki sauce seemed like the authentic kind (made with just mirin, sake, soy, and sugar/ without thickeners and extra ingredients).
I believe it was the owner who was serving me, and she was very kind and attentive. The restaurant is clean and welcoming, albeit quiet. I hope more people discover this business...
Read moreThis place serves good sushi at a decent price. I wouldn't call this great sushi but it's good enough that I'd come back for more. One of my favorites is the Philadelphia roll made with fresh salmon. The avocado in both my rolls was not ripe and rather firm, thus altering the texture but not the flavor. Overall this was a good experience and I got exactly what I was after, decent sushi without that premium price tag.
I returned to try some of their Korean dishes. I had the beef bulgogi and was happy overall. Presentation and flavor were spot on and I enjoyed all the side dishes that came with it, particularly the pickled veggies. For the price the portion of the main course could have been a little larger. Thus no change in rating. Once again, I found the staff to be...
