I made a reservation a month before , for valentine's day. All the reviews gave me high expectations. It is important to know that the everyday menu was not available. They were serving a prix fixe menu.
The wine list is reasonable and a bottle is not too expensive. Our Cote du Rhone came out warm, we has to ask for an ice bucket to cool it off.
Course 1: Burrata - If you like soft creamy burrata that oozes once cut, this is not the place for you. Although the taste as fine, it was very firm, almost mozz firm. The beets were nice and very thinly sliced, but the large sea salt used made it seem like chewing glass. It just didn't go with the beets.
Cauliflower - This was cooked nicely. The sauce it was served atop was very good, but they barely put any on the plate.
Course 2: Pumpkin Tortellini - Served 6 pieces which were a good size. Evidently there was a sauce but it looked dry. We requested more sauce which made a huge difference. The problem is that the sauce was so watery that it didn't stick to the pasta. Perhaps making it thinker would have been made a difference. This dish was okay.
Lamb ragu tagliatelle - My personal favorite dish of the night. A good portion of al dente pasta with a hefty portion of lamb. The lamb ragu was more like sauteed ground lamb with the natural jus. Goof flavor, but again, a little more body to the ragu was expected.
Course 3 : Mousse - a very good dessert. The mousse was rich and decadent. The berries were not sweet at all, you could tell they were not ripe. This caused less of a coherent taste than expected.
Tiramisu - Great flavor. The lady finger to mascarpone ratio was close to 1:5. I usually like a little more lady finger than that but it still tasted nice. The heavy layer of cocoa powder was a little off-putting. It was very bitter and clashed with the rest of the tiramisu. Half of the amount used would have been plenty.
The place is cute and in a fun part of town, but I will not recommend this place to any one. Besides the warm wine, nothing was terrible, there are just much better options around there. I would rather go...
Read moreA friend and I had lunch here on a sunny Summer Sunday afternoon. They have a handful of small tables outside on the street which is great for people watching. Inside was nice and cool with a welcoming decor.
Carlo and another woman (can't remember her name) worked together to serve the tables. Both were extremely kind and welcoming. I had lived/worked/studied in Italia, so I was happy to learn that Carlo was from Sardinia; we spoke Italian with one another.
I had the orecchiette with pancetta. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente (I'm not sure if the pasta was home-made, but it tasted as though it was), and a moderate amount of the flavorful, light cream sauce with chunks of pancetta were mixed throughout the pasta. It was the perfect-size lunch portion: not too much, not too little. My friend had the pappardelle with braised short rib red sauce. It was excellent. They also served wonderful focaccia with olive oil & balsamic.
They had a nice wine list too: I had a nicely chilled rosé.
Side-note: I had unknowingly left my iPhone in an Uber, and realized it once we sat down at the restaurant. They felt compassion for me, and encouraged me to use their WiFi so I could use the "Find My iPhone" app on my laptop to track down my phone. 20 minutes later I found it. They were so gracious and friendly, it made me want to eat there every time I visit New York. Good food goes a long way, but good atmosphere and good people take it to another...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant based on previous food reviews from friends. I must say the food did not disappoint, this place also has a very good happy hour. However, the service is the reason for my 3 star rating. Upon arrival it took a server atleast 10 minutes to welcome us and to present us with menus. Although, the main reason for this rating is the final encounter we had with our waitress when paying the cheque. As a party of 5 we paid part of the cheque with cash and the remainder on card. When handing over my card and cash I informed that this was the final amount to be paid which included tip. When she returned with my card and the leftover cash, she rudely informed us that we “did not leave enough tip” for her and pointed out the recommended amount of tip. This made us feel extremely awkward and unwanted in this restaurant. This waitress had no place to tell us how much we should tip her, the suggested gratuity is merely a suggestion rather than a must. The atmosphere she created at the table was awkward, embarrassing and quite frankly disrespectful. All five of our party work in the hospitality industry in both high and low profile restaurants and found this experience quite shocking. This kind of treatment towards customers should not be accepted, no matter what age the customers nor the restaurant location. It was a pity that our experience here ended on a sour note, as if it hadn’t occurred we would...
