Before finding MOTIV, I’d been in and out of physical therapy for a couple years since having surgery for a stress fracture in my hip. After surgery, I managed to recover okay (or so I thought) and about a year later, I got hooked on weight lifting. Every so often the pain in my hip would return and so I’d go back to physical therapy, but it was always the same thing. The same generic exercises were prescribed for weeks on end, with no clear plan for returning to the gym. In one practice I tried, the physical therapist would consult with me for about 15 minutes before handing me off to someone I didn’t know who would teach me the exercises I was supposed to do, with no clear instructions for follow up. Eventually I’d get tired of it, stop going, the pain would resolve, I’d go back to training, and then at some point, the pain would come back. Rinse & repeat.
Then I came to MOTIV via a friend’s recommendation. What immediately struck me was the level of personalized care I got there. Julie Ann got to know my history, got to know me and my training style. She studied my body, my posture, my movements, and made observations no other physical therapist had made and prescribed exercises no other physical therapist had prescribed. I’ve been back for my hip a couple times and more recently, for my back. I’ll go in there absolutely convinced the problem is one thing, and she’ll find it to be something else entirely. I’m absolutely blown away by how knowledgeable she is. She doesn’t dole out short-term, band aid solutions. She gets to the root of the problem and promotes whole body healing and longevity. She understands how important weight lifting is to me and her goal is always to get me back in the gym, and back to life, safely.
MOTIV & Julie Ann have made me a better, stronger athlete and have forever raised the bar in what I expect out of...
Read moreAfter moving to the city (I hadn't even found an apartment yet!), I was fortunate to be referred to MOTIVNY by my run coach. While the entire staff is lovely, I want to focus this review on my PT, Tyler Nightingale, who has been absolutely exceptional.
What sets Tyler apart is his thoughtful approach to treatment. During our first session, he conducted a thorough assessment, listened carefully to my concerns, and focused on my immediate goal: getting healthy enough to run my planned marathon. Only then did we transition to addressing my underlying weaknesses. Tyler never pushed unnecessary appointments - instead, he built a personalized plan and scheduled follow-ups at a frequency that made sense for my recovery.
His expertise is evident in how quickly he identified the root cause of my issues. Tyler provided me with a custom program through their app, featuring videos of him demonstrating each exercise (not random YouTube links), which made following the routine at home much easier.
I'm almost reluctant to share how amazing Tyler is because I'm worried I'll never get an appointment with him again! But if you're looking for a knowledgeable, attentive physical therapist who genuinely cares about helping you achieve your goals, don't hesitate to book with Tyler at MOTIVNY. You...

I am a frequently injured runner due to my spinal condition. I was previously a patient at a different PT place here in NYC but decided to try a new place because I was getting bored of my old PT. I wanted to come to a PT that is welcoming and non-judgmental of my activity choices - one that wants to enable me to do the activities I want to do.
Two of my friends suggested that I look into MotivNY. I decided to make the change b/c I like the holistic and enabling approach MotivNY takes towards each of its patients.
I currently work with Jess - she is absolutely phenomenal. She looked into the root cause of my left foot injury and was not judgmental about not going to PT for two months, etc. Her exercises have helped me get back to my original shape in no time!
Just FYI for y'all - The other PTs, Coaches and instructors are super phenomenal - Luke, David, James, Greg, JP and Lexa. I've worked with Greg before and his manual manipulation will flush out your legs in no time lol.
If you're a runner in NYC, definitely look into MotivNY for your strength training and PT classes. You will not regret it. If you do end up going - tell them the Fruit Guy (i.e., me),...
