This place is so awesome and I don't want anyone else finding out about it because I hate waiting in lines for things...but I am not actually living in Manhattan right now, so I sadly won't be coming back anytime soon, and I want this place to be open and thriving for next time I come back; therefore, I think everyone should know about this. The place is a little dive-y but not in a bad way at all, very clean, with a long bar, a wall full of TVs showing various sportsball, and country music of my Midwest college days playing in the background. The bartender is super cool and kind and chill and I kinda want to be her friend if that wouldn't be weird (sorry, bartender if you are reading this and I made it weird).
We ordered the beef rendang because we love rendang and where I live now I can't reliably access it, as well as the crispy rice. IT. WAS. INCREDIBLE. This was my third time here, and I love their laksa and mama crispy shrimp fried rice. I know I have to explore the rest of the menu, but they are just so good!!! Laksa broth was creamy and did not skim in the coconut milk! There were many pan fried toppings that most restaurants in the states don’t bother to prepare. The fried rice had various crunchy bites making me want more and the shrimp was crunchy in its own way and not over cooked.
If you’re there when mama chef is...
