The disappointment began when we arrived and were told that the dining room had been closed, and we would have to eat in the bar. We had booked a reservation for dinner in the dining room. We had hoped we might sit in comfort and discuss the show we had just seen instead of balancing on stools in a sea of noise. Not the refined experience for which we had hoped. They should make their hours more clear when booking reservations, and if it was a case of closing early, they should contact patrons and let them know of the change.
As for the food, it was mostly inedible.
The âlump cajun crabcakeâ was indistinguishable in taste from deep fried tuna salad. Actually, it was worse because of the texture. There were no lumps. It had the texture of mashed potatoes with a tasteless crispy shell. Two bites were all I could manage. When the server came to take the plate, she asked me how I liked it. I let her know it was terrible, and her response was âohâ. Not another word about it.
Unfortunately, the filet mignon was no better. It had the same mashed potato texture but with an added mealiness that was extremely off-putting. It had a disgusting aftertaste that makes me suspect that it had been previously frozen and then thawed incorrectly. That would explain both the taste and the texture. Again, two bites were all that I could stomach. The mashed potatoes were tasty, with a great flavor of cream and butter; however, they certainly werenât worth the $59 price of the entrĂŠe. When clearing the table, the server looked at the virtually untouched steak, looked at me, and didnât inquire as to how I liked it. I suppose she goes by the old adage "don't ask if you don't want to know".
Finally, after paying the $200 tab and leaving what I would consider a fairly generous tip ($60), I was most disappointed that no one bothered to thank us for coming, and certainly no one had anything to say about us not enjoying the dinner. Thatâs really the inexcusable part of the experience.
We stopped at a food cart for kebabs on the way back to the hotel because we were...
Read moreWe went today for a before Bway show lunch. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the host and he sat us immediately even though we were 15 minutes early for our reservation and only half our party was there. The atmosphere is chic with lots of wood. Very nice. The host adjusted the a/c directly above our table (without asking) and I found this to be very thoughtful.
Our waiter, however was not as warm. His interactions were brief and intermittent, almost efficient. No banter, no chit chat which is common for Theater District places since there are so many out of towners. Almost typical NYC, matter of fact service.
We ordered lunch, two burgers and crispy chicken wrap and a bean salad. There was a mix up with the bean salad which our waiter quickly remedied. My side add on was initially forgotten by the chap who brought the food but that was also quickly delivered by the waiter. My burger was dry as was the brioche roll. The bacon side was good and the grease added much need moisture. My wife's chicken wrap was good, not great. My son enjoyed his burger. The fries were very good. Everything was presented beautifully.
I did notice our waiter catch that my water glass was empty and he filled it immediately without being asked. Our host swung by twice to check in on us and when we were leaving, he made a point of asking 'will you join us again?'
We just might as we were pressed for time and the desserts looked delicious at the...
Read moreWent to dinner here with my wife, my coworker, and her husband. The waiters English wasn't very good so my wife spoke to him in Spanish so we could understand the special of the day. He proceeded to act like he didn't speak Spanish. Then finally said to her in Spanish well they don't speak Spanish so I won't (referring to the rest of our table which is a wild assumption and incorrect). Before we started ordering we asked if we could separate the checks and his response was "what are you trying to pull". We were thrown back by this question because this is a normal thing to ask. However, I understand some places in NY do not allow it and just wanted to understand if they did. He then continued to argue with us for 5 minutes about the bill saying he won't split it unless we tell him why. He started acting like we were going to get out of trying to pay. Mind you we haven't ordered anything at this point. Then before giving us an answer he asked who would be paying which bill, and pointed to the black man at the table and said if he was paying we could not split it. Later when the one black guy at the table went to order he dismissed him to go talk to a white woman at another table. He was absolutely horrible. If we weren't starving and it wasn't pouring down rain we would have left after the first bad interaction. Never...
