This place brings back a lot of memories of being a wild and crazy twenty something living in Manhattan and waking up with hangovers. And then going to get my Sunday morning bagels to make myself feel better. H & H is part of my history. And I loved those lazy Sundays getting my bagel, cream cheese and lox. With orange juice. The think I like about this place is that they over-stuff the bagel with the melt in your mouth lox and cream cheese. The bagels have a light crispy outer coat, and a slight sweet taste. They overload it with cream cheese here, so if you like light cream cheese, let them know. It's a good bang for the buck. They are not chintzy. There is nothing like NY bagels. I have lived in Los Angeles, Phoenix, London and when you leave NY you leave behind that delicious scrumptious melt in your mouth taste of NY lox and bagels. They just don't do it as good as NY. I lived on the upper east side and this was a regular place I went to on my weekends. It's very popular with the locals. This place can get crowded and it's a hit or miss whether there will be a long line. It depends on the time. This place will always be part of my memories of my 20 something years being wild and crazy. I love this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot the same H&H bagels that I have gone to for over 10 years. Their prices have always been on the high side but it USED to be worth it. It's not the same owner that made this place a mainstay in my families life. It was sold a couple of years ago and has increasingly gone down hill. They used to be open 24 hours and their bagels were always fresh to the point that they were just coming out of the oven, (another reason they used to be above average). Recently they started closing at 9:00 PM and I noticed that the bagels just didn't seem as good but I still went there. I stopped in on a Saturday morning and grabbed 3 overpriced milks, waited in line and when I finally got to order my bagels they told me that they did not have any whole wheat evetthing bagels. So I asked for plain whole wheat bagels. They told me that they didn't have any and that it was going to be AWHILE. I thanked them and said that I didn't want anything and left. I walked 1 block away and got my whole wheat bagels at a competitors. It's going to be "AWHILE" before I go back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām done sitting idly by while NYC restaurants get by just because people walk in the door to try them. This bagel place is so subpar and itās not fair to all the people that could have gone somewhere else and had an amazing bagel experience.
The sandwich itself was subpar in quality (the bagel was mid, the egg was gross), it was prepared wrong (plain cc instead of veggieā I spent $50 on this order and they couldnāt even give me flavored cream cheese), and had American cheese on it which is a travesty.
Also paid $5 for a drink that was forgotten, but since it was a delivery order there was nothing I could do. I really canāt believe places like this keep their doors open and I get so frustrated having to sift through all these subpar restaurants to find the real gems. I feel like Iām not asking for too much trying to find a bagel place that really does it right. Unfortunately in this city I have found that there are enough people flowing through to keep almost any business alive, simply because they donāt know where to go for the best in...
