Are you hungry for beef wellington and possibly the best lamb curry in NYC? What if I told you that you can fill both those cravings at one location? You'll probably think I'm crazy but you should check out Harry's.
Located at one end of Stone Street, it's popular among the Wall St crowd and tourists. And I'm here to get my beef wellington fix, and my brother said they got the best lamb curry (I'll be the judge of that).
For starters we went with the lobster bisque, the smoked trout Deviled Eggs and the baked clams. The Lobster bisque is a real treat, first they present you with a soup dish with a decent amount of lobster in the center and then they slowly pour in the bisque from a tureen. The soup itself is rich and creamy and chock-full of lobster flavor and the lobster meat is fresh and quite a mouth full. The Deviled Eggs are okay not much to write home about I didn't really get much smoked trout flavor. My mom quite enjoyed the baked clams which had plenty of clam in them and delightfully garlicky.
For drinks I started off with a cocktail called scotchy scotch scotch; it tasted very much like scotch 😆. And then I moved onto a matcha lemonade, which tasted more of matcha than lemonade quite tasty, but I wish it tasted more of lemonade. Lastly I finished off with one of the Classic Espresso Martini and that was the perfectly delicious cocktail to finish off the meal.
Now on to the main course. I had the beef wellington and let me tell you if you ever want to have a simply marvelous beef wellington or if you had never had one before. This is the quintessential beef wellington. The puff pastry was flaky and amazingly buttery. The mushroom pate layer was earthy and full of mushroom unami. And the beef is a perfect medium rare. The knife basically glides through it like a hot knife through butter. And the truffle sauce chef's kiss now that's real truffle flavor. Also the lamb curry is also amazing too. I wish the curry had more heat to it but I guess that would detract from the delicious gamey-ness of the lamb and the wonderful symphony of spices. Truly, both are delicious dishes that I would dream of until I next dine at this establishment.
9/10. If you've been binge-ing hells kitchen and really want a beef wellington but don't want to have to cook it yourself. Have...

📝 Looked up this place to eat beef wellington in NYC a month in advance since I was making the trip from Toronto so imagine my surprise when this was honestly the most overhyped place I have ever thrown my hard earned money at.
-[STEAK TARTARE & FRIES] $35USD/52CAD 🥩 This was indeed prepared tableside and even though I had my phone out ready to take photos/videos since the menu specified it would be done tableside, the person responsible for it started doing that before I even confirmed I was ready to start filming/photographing the experience. I very clearly was snapping photos/videos of other things as he arrived so I have nothing left to say about that aspect 🥩 The portion was also incredibly small for the price paid 🥬 The ONE good thing about this dish was that it was served with leaves of lettuce and wrapping that around the beef tartare was a refreshing take I have yet to come across before
-[BEEF WELLINGTON] $74USD/101CAD 🥩 I am still appalled that for $74, it was the smallest serving I have ever had and the cut of the beef wasn't even particularly good. I would have forgiven both of those aspects if the flavors were there but nope, overall an extremely underwhelming dish 🥩 Served with the most basic sauce that didn't have much depth in flavor 🤦🏻♀️Their menu/google reviews have also specified that they have limited availability for this dish so imagine my surprise when our server made me feel like an idiot for having asked if they had any of this dish still when I was ordering
📝 Our server had to have been the worst one I have had in a long time. He questioned us like we were beggars when between two people, the above is all we ordered. I have never in my life been treated this way at a restaurant that claims to provide, "timeless elegance and contemporary comforts"
Spent almost $200CAD (because we tipped even though the service was horrible) to leave feeling like my existence at this restaurant was a sin and to top it all off, left feeling like I hadn't even eaten anything....
Read moreHarry's has been a go-to spot of mine when I am in the mood for steak and special occasion. Bringing my friend here for her birthday, both of us have dined here before and had great experiences each visit. And yet again, this steakhouse nails it each and every time. Consistency is king.
Coming in at 8pm sharp for our reservation, we were warmly greeted by the lovely hosts, who wished my friend a happy birthday (as noted in our reservation details, but still it was very much appreciated and very thoughtful, so thank you!). We were told that our table was just being prepared for us. The dining room was packed, not a seat available. Thursday nights are always sleepers for the crowds dining out, not to mention your Financial District employees coming in after work. Within 3 minutes or so, we were sat and promptly greeted and our beverage order taken.
Our server Ashley, greeted us promptly and did not rush us. Very electric personality and friendly and attentive. After a few moments Ashley returned to took our order; my friend ordering the dry aged bone-in New York strip, while I opted for the Beef Wellington, because all I know is fine dining and breathing. We rounded out our order with the potatoe purée and asparagus.
My friends strip came out a perfect medium-rare throughout, with lovely seading and crusting that oozed with the natural flavors and a lovely crushing of black peppercorns and salt. The Wellington, a thick and hearty cut, cooked to perfection and so buttery in its texture, only complimented by the crispy puff pastry.
The purée and asparagus complimented the main courses, as my friend enjoyed a simple mixed beverage, and myself a glass of red wine. We passed on desert as we leave no plate unclean, and just couldn't rise to the occasion, despite the most amusing persuasive attempts from Ashley.
The night was lovely. The food, sensational. The service, perfect. My friend truly enjoyed her birthday celebration. And on the way out, the hostess again wishing her a happy birthday... it really is just the little things that are the cherries on top of the sweetness of all that...
