Everything about this cocktail bar/restaurant is fantastic! I came here with a friend and we loved the vibe and aesthetic of the place—it was very summer-y. It reminds me of beach bars in tropical islands!
I LOVE Japanese food, so being here was a treat! They also have a sushi counter/bar where you can see the sashimi and sushi being prepared, so you know they’re legit.
My friend and I had a hard time picking what we wanted to eat because everything sounded so delicious! We started off with cocktails—they have a ton of drinks in their menu that had cute glasses/containers, and they were all very in line with their summer tiki branding. I ended up getting the Frozen Daiquiri (mango flavored) to cool off, and it was delicious!
As for our food, we ended up ordering the Hotate Kaiyaki, Crispy Sushi Taco Trio (spicy tuna, aburi salmon, spicy blue crab), Spicy Combo Platter (spicy salmon, tuna, and yellowtail roll) , and Sushi Deluxe Platter (10pcs chef’s choice nigiri and spicy tuna roll). All of them were presented so nicely, and they all tasted really good! The servings are actually really generous, and the resto did not skimp on any flavors or ingredients. The sushi platters come with miso soup. The Hotate Kaiyaki and Crispy Sushi Taco trio are very interesting dishes, I would recommend those if it’s your first time dining there! As for the sushi & sashimi, they were so fresh and they hit the spot! It’s authentic Japanese food in this restaurant for sure! And finally For dessert, we had the green tea cheesecake which was light and delicious—it was the perfect dessert to have after all the sushi!
I also liked how the servers were extremely attentive and nice—they made sure they accommodated us the entire time. Our server gave us his recommendations on the dishes, which helped our decision making process.
Overall i am very happy about the quality, taste, and presentation of the food. This is such an underrated gem in Astoria! I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a restaurant/bar to eat at with friends/family to catch up! Given that servings are plenty and there are lots of dishes to try. Prices aren’t so bad either. But in general, this is a must-visit place if you’re into authentic japanese food and...
Read moreThis place used to be Highwater and it was one of our favorite spots in Astoria, then it became Hei Tiki. First time we went back it was great, then the next time we went for the happy hour deal and were served with the check before we were even finished. Not to mention the place was empty and nowhere near closing time. We went back more recently to hit up the great happy hour again and were incredibly disappointed with the edamame portion, which was obviously smaller. You get what you pay for I guess. Then I ordered chicken skewers, took a bite, and RAW. Raw cold chicken. Waiter took it back with no apology or any care. We ordered another drink and was met with annoyance by the bartender (Ernest) when a slight customization was requested. We were okay with paying extra, and still it was like pulling teeth. If you want to go for a cheap quick happy hour, save your time and money and go...
Read moreHei Tiki & Sushi Bar in Astoria is a cool spot for Japanese eats with some great twists. Their Hotate Kayiaki and chicken dumplings are amazing option for appetizers, completely delicious. Now, onto the mains. The sushi here is on point, especially that trio sushi taco. It's like sushi meets taco—crunchy shell with fresh fish inside. About the drinks, they've got you covered. They've got a good range, from dry to smooth. We had Caribbean Cafe and Puerto Escondido. Cocktails are inventive too, mixing up Japanese and NYC Queens flavors. For dessert, green tea cheesecake is amazing so magical and yummy. The vibe and staff energy let us totally comfortable. It's cozy, got that modern Japanese vibe going. Whether you're chilling at the bar or kicking back at a table, it's a vibe. Hei Tiki's a winner if you're up for Japanese with a twist. Good food, good drinks, good...
