If you are a tourist visiting Manhattan, I strongly recommend reading this review before ordering from Henry & The Lions (405 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011). On March 14th, I placed a dinner order from this restaurant. Then, I received a different type of fish than what I originally requested.
I contacted the restaurant and spoke with someone who identified himself as the chef, Jeffry. He explained that the type of fish I ordered was not available and offered a $20 refund, which I appreciated at the time. I am sharing a copy of the receipt in this review for reference. Despite this gesture, I was still disappointed—particularly given that the portion size was quite small relative to the price.
Since I was in New York for a scientific trip, I chose not to press the issue further and waited the few days Chef Jeffry said it would take for the refund to appear on my statement. A week passed, and nothing changed. When I followed up by phone, he told me the refund would have been processed through the online carrier. However, the email confirmation and receipt clearly came from the restaurant’s own domain, not a third-party service.
He took my number and promised to call me back to confirm the refund, but that never happened. Today, as I was reviewing my monthly statement, I attempted to call again to follow up—only to have the call abruptly ended when I asked about the refund. This kind of response is unacceptable.
As a professional and a visitor to this city, I find this experience very disappointing. It raises concerns not just about service quality but also about accountability. Tourists are often only in town briefly, and many may not be able to follow up on situations like this once they’ve left. That makes it even more important for businesses in popular areas to act with integrity and professionalism.
This experience deserves zero stars—not even a single one. I am leaving this review in the hope that it helps others make more...
Read moreToday, three member of my family and I enjoyed a delightful brunch at The Henry and Lion at west 23rd street and the experience was truly memorable. The ambiance is nothing short of enchanting—cozy and inviting, with bookshelves lining the walls, creating a warm, literary haven that instantly puts you at ease. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between sophisticated and welcoming, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely meal. Our waitress (the shorter one, forgiving me forgetting her name)was a standout, radiating genuine warmth and attentiveness that elevated the entire experience. Her professionalism and friendliness were evident from the moment we were seated. I ordered eggs over hard, but the kitchen mistakenly prepared them scrambled. When our waitress noticed the error, she handled it with remarkable grace, promptly offering a complimentary plate of perfectly cooked over-hard eggs. This thoughtful gesture left a lasting impression and showcased the establishment’s commitment to exceptional service. The food itself was a highlight. The coffee was rich, aromatic, and brewed to perfection, complementing the meal beautifully. The brunch platter was equally impressive, bursting with fresh, high-quality ingredients and vibrant flavors that delighted the palate. Each component was thoughtfully prepared, making every bite a pleasure. If there’s one minor critique, it’s that the portion of potatoes could have been more generous to match the rest of the platter’s abundance. Overall, The Henry and Lion offers a brunch experience that combines a charming environment, outstanding service, and delectable cuisine. It’s a gem worth visiting, and we look forward to...
Read morewe ordered a sandwich and the mushroom burger, as well as two iced coffees. both coffees were overly watery and dark (insufficient milk) and the staff who made them seemed really inexperienced. i also expected the coffees to come in tall glasses as we were dining in, but they were served in plastic to-go cups.
the sandwich came without avocado (the first ingredient listed for the sandwich) and the burger wasn’t the mushroom one ($19), but a regular one (priced at $16). we pointed out these errors and they replaced the burger and added avocado to the sandwich.
however, it took over half an hour after that to receive the correct burger, which was first mistakenly served to the table next to us (to another customer who didn’t even order the mushroom burger, but the lamb one) and it was at least 10mins before they realized the error.
we finally got the correct burger after we already finished the sandwich, about an hour after the initial order. the burger was disappointing (we requested medium rare, but it was definitely cooked through and the texture looked like a frozen patty), not worth the $19 price tag.
the interior was nicely decorated and the general ambience is chic, but the food & service leave much to be desired if you’re dining in and ordering entrees. the waiter did comp our burger due to all of the errors made but it was the least they could do, tbh. i hope their kitchen and serving staff improve quickly to rectify these errors because they left us extremely unsatisfied with our...
