Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart — Restaurant in New York

stopped by here a couple of times as Hokkaido is newish to the East Village area. it’s a nice space with a good amount of seating—very clean and well-maintained…providing a good spot to grab something to eat or enjoy some coffee. the coffee is solidly good, served very hot which is a plus on wintery days. never had a baked cheese tart til i tried one at Hokkaido so I wasn’t sure what to expect but it very much is cheese-centric tart. ordered a mango cheese tart—there’s a good amount of mango sweetness to the tart but the savoriness dairy cheese is present in each bite. the tart is served somewhat warm and the cheese filling will spill out as you eat it as it. tbh, the tart was too “cheesy” for me and it kinda overpowered the mango flavor. the cheese tart probably is not something I’d order again bc it’s less dessert-y than I’d like. I believe they may introduce crème puffs here which I’d be game for. nice addition to neighborhood, looking forward to what else they add...

Came here 9/27 around 9:10pm. Their tgtg is from 9:00-9:45. Don’t come too early because stores won’t let you pick it up since you need to swipe it on the app to show proof it was you that ordered. The swipe feature doesn’t show up until it’s the right time. I got a tgtg bag and brought a dragon pearl tea. The tea was really good. The tgtg with a black sesame cream puff, one ube tart, and an original tart. The puff was good and for the tart, it was okay. The crusty is a bit too thick for my liking. Good service. The crust is nice and crumbly like shortbread,  The custard is very gooey.  Matcha and hojicha is both nicely flavored, but feels like I notice it on the first bites only.  Might be good to have with coffee between bites to reset the palate.

The bolo bao has a very nice crunch.  Also a little messy. You need to eat it upside down as the bottom is thin/fragile since there is no crust to help with the structure. Would get this again.
