Went there for a lunch yesterday sat right in the middle it was a small section opened just for lunch. The back section was closed. Went there with my boyfriend’s parents and his bestie, as much as they loved the food Thank God, the service was poor. We asked for this and that and the server looked annoyed. Tina was nice the other girl was a disappointment. Never wrote this long review . This was our first time here she was just nice when she sat us down and said ask for any recommendations blah blah…. few minutes later…..It’s like 13 reasons WHY why I am annoyed with the customer Reasons are as follows :
Where’s the restroom ? I asked for my in-law she can’t read . The server says at the back. I asked back where ? left or right (OK) Bestie ordered some cocktail but said they make it with soju , he cancels and orders the tea instead along with my in-laws I asked for soda - we don’t have soda . I’ll stick to water thanks . I could already sense a lil bit of annoyance in her face.
Ordered ribs she said 20 mins we said fine ( I realized Chinese food tends to come out fast, have had prior experience where we kept on waiting) I asked her if she can bring all the food at once, once it’s ready. she said they can’t. So, I don’t wanna be waiting for ribs while I finish eating my rice n veggies so I said will cancel. Ordered beef item instead.
Food comes out, I ask for 3 forks (bestie n in-laws don’t know how to use chopsticks, not all Asian looking ppl can use chopsticks)
My boyfriend calls her out looking back she’s behind the counter. I am facing towards her I could see her annoyance signaling the other server Tina, you go with her hand. My boyfriend asked for extra napkins, Chilli oil. We asked Tina to take our picture. (Parents n bestie was visiting) so of course I wanted them to have a good time we took a pic.
She was gone , our server was gone without a word. Just puts the food down on the table. That’s it. Didn’t show her face afterwards How’s the food ? Would you like to order sth else? Would you like some more water? Bestie Drops fork - need another one .. no one came he used a spoon that was on the friend rice. Extra napkins, drinks .. all the things a server should ask NOPE …. NOTHING… just avoidance annoyance attitude
I could tell Tina was still under training or a beginner my guess. But very nice. The other one acted like she was entitled to feel that way working in the service industry. Me, my boyfriend, and his bestie we all work in this industry so we know how it works. It’s your job, if you always react to customer’s request or give an attitude, you should not be working in the industry. We all could feel her the way she was acting, her way of serving food with that attitude. By the time the food started coming out we all knew. I wanted to know the servers name just for the review but later didn’t wanted to even bother. I just looked up for the nice girls name, Tina. After Tina started helping us the other one didn’t even bother coming out to us again. Like seriously. In this industry, there’s always one person who acts like they know it all, with that bossy attitude, try to look down on your coworker just cuz she’s been working there long enough or have more experience. She’s one of them. I feel sorry for those who work with her during the shift. Later , I could see her eating her food on the closed section of the restaurant as I was passing by the restroom. And by the way I didn’t realize my in-law she didn’t use the restroom. As I was coming back from the restroom she asked me to show which was the ladies room. She said she got confused - which was for who. While that server was sitting there, eating her food around the corner. Me - pissed thinking this is gonna be a long long review of my life. Btw we ordered 7 food items, 4 rice, 4 drinks. I’d not wanna even bother posting a picture. Only gave 18% tips we wished we could give lower. Usually we give 22 to 25 since we all work in this industry, we all know how it feels. It was such a disappointment. First...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I had decided to order pick up from this restaurant. We were looking forward to try this restaurant based off the reviews. However, our experience with a simple take out order was nothing short of a NIGHTMARE. We had originally planned to have an "in restaurant" meal but due to the long wait (an hour), we decided to order pick up through the restaurant’s own system because it said that pick up would be 30 to 35 minute. We placed our order at 7:00 p.m. The restaurant system told us that our order would be ready at 7:31 p.m. . We traveled by car and arrived at 7:30 p.m. Once we entered restaurant, we were told that the wait time is incorrect online and that the typical wait time is instead 45 minutes to 1 hour. We understood that sometimes online ordering has the incorrect information and we patiently waited. Throughout this entire time we had our 2-year-old child with us. Anyone who has children know, that children have a certain period of time that they are calm but after that period of time they become cranky and upset. We live in the upper east side and had the restaurant told us that it was eventually going to be another 40 minutes. We would have brought our child back home but there was NO COMMUNICATION at all! We eventually had to end up waiting a total of 1 hr and 40 minutes for our take out order. We were only told after this time that some of the items were not available. We waited for such a long time and did not even receive the meal we ordered. Half of the food items were cold because they were probably sitting out while the rest were being cooked. During this entire process, there was no communication between the staff or management and my family. There were no apologies. When we were finally handed our takeaway bag, We were told that they had removed some of our order and did not let us know until that moment. We are very upset with the service and professionalism of this establishment. Unfortunately even after trying the food, we were disappointed. The soup dumplings were depleted and cold. The tofu dish was wrapped incorrectly and had made a I do mess in the bag. And the soups...
Read moreCame with group of 3 on Friday first dinner seating. Surprisingly we were able to be seated right away, even though usually there is a long waitlist.
Menu is huge and there’s a large range of options to choose from. Many of their recommended dishes are on the pricier side. The portions are decent though.
For food we ordered Pork soup dumplings, woodear mushroom salad, Peking duck (small portion), pea shoots, and Crispy fish in five spices. After munching on these, we were still hungry so we also ordered their crab tofu.
Overall I enjoyed the crab tofu the most. The Peking duck is good. My friends liked the fish but it was a bit too boney and dry for me. Soup dumplings were actually quite good, skin is thin - not as thin as DTF but better than other options in nyc right now.
We ordered the rose goldfish tea which is actually nothing special, the teabag is just shaped like a goldfish.
Decor and ambience is good, food came quickly, but service is mediocre. Perhaps they deal with too many students, but there were some small nitpick behaviors such as only allowing two cups if you order their tea. It’s reasonable since they allow refill, but we would rather just not have refill and be able to try the tea amongst our group of three.
Additionally they only take 2 cards per table when paying. Considering how much the bill was at the end of it, you would think they just relax a little bit on these arbitrary rules.
They were also blasting the air conditioning due to the current heat wave, and our table may have been right underneath the vent, so it was freezing. This made the food get cold pretty quickly.
I’m willing to come back again if there is no wait to try more of their menu, but I don’t think it’s worth waiting for. Try Cafe China instead which has top notch service and a bit more of a flavorful taste in comparison, and more...
