I grew up with cystic fibrosis. It's a fatal lung disease but also has huge impacts to the lungs, pancreas, nuts, and sinuses. Mostly lungs, pancreas and sinuses. Anyway I started taking a new medication lately that basically cures my cystic fibrosis. It's called Trikafta [for posterity].
I very recently realized that growing up, I was hardly able to taste my food. It strained my relationship and most food was simply not enjoyable at all.
This medication, I started taking it recently. About a year ago. Anyway this past year I've rediscovered food. I've been able to try everything (essentially) for the first time. Like, for real.
Anyway because of this med, this meal at J Spec was the best I've ever had. I seriously almost started crying.
I knew I loved good steak. But this....this experience..I will never forget it. I got to meet the Chef [Koichi] and also the waiter/host. It's hard to describe and it almost seems over-dramatic. But this was one of the best nights of my life. Almost like reuniting with a long, lost love.
Thank you chef Koichi (and whomever was hosting on October 13th at 8pm). Thank you for providing a night that can't (literally) be forgotten. Thank you so...
Read moreThe atmosphere of the restaurant is elegant and refined and the staff is friendly and attentive. We ordered the A5 Wagyu Filet Mignon (3 oz) [$65] and the Wagyu TKG (a rice dish with wagyu, tartare, and a poached egg) [$26]. Since this restaurant specializes in wagyu, we had to try one of the signature wagyu steaks but I thought the rice dish was much better than the signature steak. The steak was not as tender as I would have expected and for the price, I would have wanted to get a few of the other rice / noodle dishes instead. All that being said, I am glad we tried the signature steak so we wouldn’t continue wondering!
One of the waitresses was extremely friendly and she also offered us some hojicha tea on the house at the end of the meal. It was a nice spot and we were surprised that we were able to get a table for 2 at 7:30 PM on a...
Read moreIt was a great experience and the food was delicious! Attention to the details and it is proven in the quality of their food too. I’d definitely come back for sure.
I tried a course and it was a good decision! We upgraded one course with Ozaki beef and compared with the regular wagyu. Wow, the regular one was already amazing but ozaki beef! No joke :)
The only thing I’d say is that I wanted to eat a salad or something that has more vegetable. I’d replace the Tamagoyaki (egg thing) with something with vegetable like salad. I’d also end the course with Osuimono (soup) as Japanese tradition.
But that is something for my taste and not to decrease the quality of the experience.
Clean and friendly staff who helps you get the best value of the...
