We went to this restaurant yesterday for an early afternoon dinner. As soon as we walked in the door, our server was not very inviting at all and had a look of disdain for us on her face. We sat at our table for at least ten minutes before anyone came over to give us a menu. Finally, as our server came over to take our order, she didn't even look at us. She was not attentive to us at all and just plain rude. I ordered food for both of us. We were given teacup saucers to eat off of instead of regular sized plates. I was told they did not have any regular size plates. I saw a Caucasian couple come in after us. They were immediately greeted with smiles when their food came out it came out on regular sized plates and they were frequently checked on as they ate their meal. I used a discounted coupon that I purchased through an app, and the server tried to tell me several it wasn't valid when there were clearly no restrictions for use of it. We received our food and yet it was tasty but wasn't hot. In addition, we weren't giving one the appetizers we ordered, nor were we given the dessert. The server never came to check on us at our table. Since we entered the restaurant and until we left, our server was extremely rude and disrespectful. Her attitude and demeanor weren't pleasant at all. As I saw food coming out on much larger plates, I again asked for a larger plate and was told that they didn't have any. I had been to the other location and was really surprised and shocked at the terrible service I received. After paying the bill, I decided not to leave a tip because of the lack service blantant disrespect. As we got up to leave, the server then argued with me about not leaving a minimum eighteen percent tip. I finally had it and had to tell her about the poor service blatant disrespect that she showed us. Nevertheless, she continued to argue with me. I finally stop talking to her and left the restaurant. I had gone there support my friend who had a horrible week and the dinner ended up being a disaster.I have never been so humiliated in all my life. I will never be returning to this restaurant again. HORRIBLE...
Read moreI went to their EV location, and was first drawn in by the elegant old Shanghai interior. The restaurant filled up quickly during the dinner rush, a clear sign it’s a neighborhood favorite.
The service was impeccable, and they even gave us free strawberry ice cream at the end.
*Pan Fried Pork Xiao Long Bao 小楊生煎 $7.95 Unlike the usual SJB with fluffy bao dough, this version had a thinner wrapper that burst with meaty juiciness and a crisp golden bottom.
*Crab Xiao Long Bao 蟹粉小籠包 $7.95 The filling was juicy, and I could definitely taste the crabmeat. The only downside was the skins on all xlb were broken when they arrived.
*Green Tea Sesame Ball 綠茶芝麻球 $6.95 I didn’t expect the filling to ooze like lava!! It was like infusing mung bean sweet soup into a sesame ball rather than green tea.
*Yangzhou Fried Rice 揚州炒飯 $13.95 You can choose one protein from shrimp, beef, or chicken. It was well-seasoned and came in a good sharing portion.
*Minced Pork Noodle 炸醬麵 $11.95 Every noodle strand could be well-coated with the sauce, and loaded with savory minced pork.
*Dongpo Pork 東坡紅燒肉 $20.95 My friend had been craving dongpo pork ever since watching Culinary Class Wars😂 Give it a try if you're into a fattier cut of pork belly.
*Sautéed Shrimp with Dragon Well Tea $22.95 Skippable. The shrimp lacked that plump, bouncy texture, and the sauce was a bit too sticky. I also couldn’t taste much of the tea flavor.
*Mango Sago Pomelo 楊枝甘露 $6.95 A sweet treat to wrap up the dinner! They also have traditional dessert options like Osmanthus Rice Dumpling (桂花酒釀圓子) and White Fungus Soup (蓮子銀耳羹).
While the vibes were great, I wished the doors had been closed, as the construction noise and flying bugs were quite distracting, though this wasn’t...
Read moreThe food i already had heard was excellent but it exceeded even those wonderful reviews. I had limited time and was only able to have appetizers but will DEFINITELY be coming back for more. My recommendations are the chicken shumai which are extremely fresh to be so well-cooked and flavorful and the shrimp steamed dumplings which might sound like a standard dish are particularly inspired at this restaurant, not too much dough and lots of shrimp inside but the dough flavor is very soft and delicious and makes it’s presence known. Both appetizers were very fragrant. I also normally order just a glass of wine (my favorite is Pinot Noir but often red wine at Asian restaurants is limited to Cabernet or Merlot.) However, i was surprised to see a Cloud titled red Pinot Noir & it was so dry and light i actually ended up having two. Then, even though i had not had a full meal, the very polite and attentive staff brought me a refreshing treat of ice cream while I waited for my check which arrived instantly. I’ve eaten all over NYC for many decades and this is a new favorite for me. I encourage you to gift yourself by trying it out. You will not be...
