Jasper’s is a lovely kitchen bar in Hell’s Kitchen Manhattan. With many varieties of beers and ciders, the kitchen bar is located near gay bars and many other restaurants which makes the footfall in the are a bit crazy. When you come into the bar you will notice that the bar has massive glass widows which they will open during the summer bringing a lot natural light in. I missed counted how many times I have been to Jaspers, I’m a client since 2014. Back that time the food in Jasper’s used to be insane good, the waffle with southern fried chicken and berry pure, the macaroni cheese with jalapeños crumbs were the BEST, and when I say insane good I mean it. Over the years I have noticed that the food quality has gone down significantly, and some of the size of the portions also has gone smaller from what it used to be. It is very frustrating to write this review as I was very disappointed with the food again Yesterday 28th September, I decided to bring friends along with me for few drinks and food, it was just after 3pm, and the food was a massive disappointment, all our meals were tasteless, and I even asked the waitress if they have changed the chefs as the food wasn’t good. I still think it is worth a visit to this bar as the vibe is great and the service is always amazing. I would knock couple stars off if was the case that I’m a regular customer and I know the food...
Read moreThis was a great choice for our brunch! I'm shocked that they weren't booked but I'm glad they weren't because my group had a great time. The drinks were delicious and creative. I've never had an espresso martini with Screwball Peanut Butter Whiskey as the base and it was delicious. It wasn't overly powerful on any flavor profile...just balanced well. The food was filling and tasty. We ordered the Chicken and Waffles, the Breakfast Burrito, Steak & Eggs, and a few other dishes. I had the burrito and I really enjoyed it. The people in my party loved their food as well. The only comment we had was that we wished that the chicken and waffles had a sweet and spicy sauce to go with it. It needed something to bring the dish together and make the flavors compliment each other. Otherwise, they were good separately, not together unfortunately. But that didn't mean that the dish was bad. Just needs something to amplify it.
Other than that, we had a great time. The host was amazing and the server that we had really treated us well and was very knowledgeable on the menu. It's comforting when the server has had the food or at least knows it. Nothing is worse than asking the server for a rec and they say "I have never had the food here." Our server gave great recs and we appreciated her!! Definitely would...
Read moreFood seemed a bit overpriced (though I'm from Richmond, VA originally, so maybe that's just normal prices for the area), but I was disappointed that their "smashburger" came with nothing on it but a mass of partly cooked (but not "caramelized") onions...no lettuce, tomato, mustard, ketchup, mayo, or other toppings to be had, and no seasoning that I could taste, either. Fries were okay, but nothing out of the ordinary for any other taphouse-pub type location. The real crime meriting the low score for food, however, was the "rum and coke" that came out somehow lacking any discernible alcohol but also light enough in color to pass for lemonade. I've had some watered down drinks in my day, but this was less a "watered down rum and coke" and more of a "coked up (ha) water poured on a bartop that also featured a bottle of rum".
Service was spotty, with staff needing to be reminded that food needed to be (and later, had been) ordered, the wrong stuff being brought to our table, and no offers of refills for water or soda (though the waitress sure did try to sell me a second "alcoholic" beverage!).
The atmosphere seemed nice enough, but it was nothing really special or different from any of the other "taphouse / grill / kitchen" places I have been to...
