So Jimmy's was recommended to me by a co-worker who had eaten there several times. My wife and I decided to give it a try last week for our anniversary. Restaurant was clean, and well lit. Our server was friendly and very attentive and we were seated right away. Started off with some fresh warm semolina bread with herb seasoned olive oil which was delicious. We both love clams casino and were happy to see it on the menu so we ordered it as an appetizer. We have enjoyed clams casino at many other places and they are usually prepared as whole or chopped clam with bread crumbs, some finely chopped onion and green/red pepper, sometimes chopped garlic, and some chopped bacon on top with butter and seasoning. That is where the disappointment started. Our server brought out a half dozen clams on a plate. As he walked away, we both looked at the clams somewhat confused. The clams appeared to be steamed. On top of the clam were some large pieces of chopped onion, with a large chunk of roasted red pepper covering the whole clam, and a piece of bacon on top. No breadcrumbs, butter, or any other seasoning. We both thought that maybe this was just a different way to prepare the clams and ate them but were very disappointed. On my return to my office the next day, my co-worker informed me that in his experience at Jimmy's he always had his clams casino prepared the traditional way so I am not sure what happened to our dinner. Next we both had a salad. My wife had a mixed green salad and I had a Caesar salad. The cucumbers in her salad were very bitter and my Caesar salad had no cheese on top, either grated, shredded, or shaved. For an entree my wife order eggplant parmigiana and I ordered shrimp parmigiana. The marinara sauce was delicious; light, sweet and just the right amount of seasoning. My wife thought her eggplant was just OK, nothing to rave about. The breading on my shrimp was extremely soggy, and just slid off of the shrimp. The shrimp themselves were rubbery, and had practically no taste. I am going to guess that they were previously frozen and most likely farmed raised. Since the last time my co-worker was there was pre-COVID, I have to wonder if there is a new chef working. Whatever the reason, my wife and I will not be returning. There are so many other Italian food options in the Whitestone/Bayside area, I see no reason why we should have to waste money on...
Read moreI rarely leave a review after a first visit and almost never with 5 stars however my lunch here today was truly extraordinary. The restaurant is very well lit and clean with tables spaced nicely apart. The service was excellent despite a large party in a separate room. The waiter, busboy and owner were attentive and very nice. The food was outstanding. Fried zucchini and clams casino for appetizers. I had the chicken cacciatore with pasta which was absolutely scrumptious. Delicious sauce, tender chicken and mushrooms. My sister has the veal and eggplant parmigiano with pasta which she really enjoyed and we both had plenty left to take home. For dessert we had a chocolate Mudd truffle and the chocolate souffle with ice cream and whipped cream and decaf cappuccinos. I had a glass of chianti and she had a soda. The bill including tax was under $100.00. You won't find anything better than this. Can't wait to return and try other items on the...
Read moreThe service here was beyond terrible. Totally inattentive wait staff never bothered to check on the table one time throughout the entire meal. We had a few different bus boys bring food and drinks because the service sucked so bad. The food wasn’t much better. They told us the specials we ordered them only to have them come back and say they didn’t have them, we made alternate choices and they couldn’t accommodate because they didn’t have that type of pasta. What is this your first night in business ? The pasta wasn’t drained just plated so it was sitting in a puddle of water. It was one disappointment after another here and after all the nonsense they didn’t even try to offer us any type of reconciliation. This place was a one and done and definitely Don’t recommend...
