This has been my favorite Thai spot since it’s opened; a real godsend as high quality and farm-to-table food is not so typical for Thai restaurants. We usually order take out but this time decided to go sit at their street-seating and I have to say I was shocked and disappointed by what I experienced. First, we were told to grab an empty table which was clearly not clean nor sanitized (we asked for it to be cleaned and it was). We were then handed plastic menus that were clearly not cleaned in a long time, let alone since the previous customer (they were stained with food and finger prints). Those things alone freaked me out enough, but then various other small things deepened the disappointment - service was slow; cutlery wasn’t provided for all four of us and when we asked, we got some plastic utensils but were still short on what we needed; one of our noodle dishes was poorly done with way too much sauce and salt; and in general the outside area didn’t look to be tended to very well with some rubbish lying around beneath the tables. It seems to me like they are too busy to handle the demand and they are slipping. We’re all trying to be more patient with our neighborhood restaurants during these unprecedented times, but there is no room to drop the ball on hygiene and sanitation during a pandemic. Will continue to give them a chance because I love the food but I will be more cautious going forward.
Update: probably time to refresh my review from several years ago, but one lingering observation over the years is how weird and stingy they are about their sauces. They claim to have no spicy sauces or condiments, and you always have to challenge them in order to get something. Usually the best you’ll make out with is some Sriracha. It’s...
Read moreFirst time at Jintana because I read a review that said there were gluten-free options and Pad Thai is usually gluten-free. The only Pad Thai on the menu is their version that includes gluten, "crispy calamari." I was told that it can be made gluten-free so I ordered it. My plate came separately and the waitress said it was gluten-free. There was still calamari on the plate but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since gluten-free panko exists. I took a bite and immediately regretted it. I spit it out but the damage was done. They remade the dish but there was no apology or additional protein added to replace the omitted calamari. This was yesterday and I am still sick today from the carelessness of this restaurant.
Two other people in my group ordered the Pad Thai, as well, (with gluten) and felt that the shrimp and calamari were overcooked. One of them usually has an iron stomach but felt "off" as they ate, so they did not finish their plate. The fourth person had Pad See Ew and it left them with vertigo until the next day. Something is wrong with the food here for most of our group to have been left sick.
The service was also poor. The waitress did not think to bring more cutlery and napkins for a group of 4 at a table that was set up just for 2. The dishes also came out randomly, making for an awkward eating experience.
I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone, gluten intolerant or not, and will not...
Read moreWe have eaten here many times and have been impressed. Sadly we came here on a Wednesday night and were completely underwhelmed. The Pad Thai and Thom Kai Gai were typical good standards, but the fried calamari was extremely tough and over fried, as was the Branzino. As others reported the sticky rice was dry and had no coconut milk flavor whatsoever. At the end of the meal when the server asked how the food was and I gave them the same review as I just wrote, they simply thanked us, took our uneaten calamari away and gave us a check for the whole meal. In my experience, a decent restaurant would take the dish off the bill or offer a free drink or dessert to compensate. I didn’t bother disputing it, but my hopes are that the owner will read this review and make the necessary adjustments to the staff and kitchen to keep the standards high as I do very much want to have a good Thai restaurant to eat at in Park Slope. I hope that this is a one off experience and Jintana will have a more consistent experience, and if they don’t, they will recognize when they fall short and listen to their customers feedback -...
