Finally found a gem of a ramen spot in Park Slope that hits all the right notes. Toyo Ramen Bar is exactly what the neighborhood needed – a cozy, unassuming spot that serves up seriously good ramen without any pretense.
The tonkatsu ramen here is the real deal. The broth is rich and complex, clearly made with care and time. It's the kind of bowl that warms you up from the inside out, especially welcome on those chilly Brooklyn evenings. They don't cut corners – you can taste the depth of flavor that only comes from proper preparation.
What really sets Toyo apart is their attention to hospitality. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warm tea and a genuine welcome. Our waiter was attentive without hovering, and happily walked us through their extensive menu. Speaking of which – they've got everything from classic ramen variations to some creative takes, plus a solid boba tea selection that's worth saving room for.
It's quiet enough for conversation, with a comfortable, intimate feel that makes you want to linger over your bowl. As someone who lives in DUMBO, I find myself wishing we had a spot like this in the neighborhood. The trek to Park Slope is worth it though – Toyo Ramen Bar has become my go-to ramen spot in Brooklyn.
If you're looking for authentic ramen in a laid-back setting with great service, you won't be disappointed here. It's the kind of place that reminds you why small, family-run restaurants often deliver the best dining...
Read moreI’ve just finished eating here today. I was in the neighborhood and had a want for ramen and was surprised I’ve not been to this place as I’m familiar with some of the other Ramen shops in the area.
I have to say this was a pleasant experience at this particular ramen spot.
I will say the only downside isla that the pork was very few considering that some of the other places are a little more generous with pork for what you’re paying.
However, the atmosphere for the most part is very inviting and calm which is very different from other places that seem busy and super loud.
I also do appreciate that they do not give me the bums rush and they let me sit and relax after eating their good food and was even attentive to my want of water and refills.
I didn’t eat their good food brown shredded stuff that was in the ramen as it is my first time trying it and my stomach wasn’t comfortable with it (Google just showed me that this stuff is called Wood ear mushrooms. Definitely not for me. I’ll ask them to leave it out next time).
I definitely recommend this place if you’re in town or just wanting a different atmosphere to relax and eat.
UPDATE: I am not a fan of bubble tea. However I tried this Milk Green Tea they shared with me and I have to say it’s quite delicious! I actually like it more without the bubbles! I know that sounds weird, but I’m very simplistic when it comes to food and sometimes simple is best! You should definitely...
Read moreToyo has some “just opened” hiccups, but the staff is really trying and the atmosphere is phenomenal. We had one cold dish, that should not have been, and the pork chashu seemed to have a little sear on it, which a ramen officianado may lose their mind over. I am not, however, one of those, and it was pretty good. The “spicy” dishes are on the light side of spicy, but they have a little jar on every table with a hot paste, which I really appreciated. The tempura brussel sprouts were excellent, though the menu is confusing (said it includes asparagus, sweet potato, red pepper and onion … but they appeared to be just brussel sprouts, which were really, really good). Menu also says it comes with a tempura sauce. It came to the table without, but the waitperson did ask if we’d like some, and offered a choice. I’d highly recommend the spicy mayo, it was exceptional. The gyoza was nothing short of perfect, crispy bottom, tender pork, pliable dumplings on top. They had run out of glasses, so we were drinking water from styrofoam cups, which falls under that ‘hiccup’ category. It did not bother me at all and the waitstaff topped off our green teas regularly. It was great, I will be going back....
