Ordered a coffee, and then decided to add an additional shot of espresso while they were still making it. Instead of charging me for a coffee WITH espresso, the staff rang it up as two separate orders (ie, an extra $3.50 for the espresso shot?!?). When I asked if it would have been a lot cheaper to ring it up as a single order, the answer was yes. I asked if they could simply void/return the first transaction (I was paying in cash) and then re-ring it up, and the answer was no (keep in mind, no line of people behind me). $10 for a mid-sized coffee. Lazy, dishonest staff with no integrity nor care for the customer. Their beans/ground coffee look good with their descriptions (ie 'honey, clementine, etc), and it is flavorful, but short on the caffeine factor. From now on, I'll stick to Porto Rico, just a stone's throw away on Bleecker. Better coffee, greater selection, better prices, incredibly better staff. Don't let the smiles of the Joe Coffee staff fool you - you are here...
Read moreI recently stumbled across joes on waverly (after living in the neighborhood for 4 years lol) and have been 5-6 times in the past 2 weeks. I want to call out the exceptional service, the baristas are genuinely SO nice. Every single one I’ve met has gone above and beyond and actually smiles! This location is super cozy and great for curling up with a book. I love their almond milk matcha latte as they use kettl so it’s high quality. I tried the pomegranate mocha with almond milk (half sweet as I usually only order black americanos with stevia) and OH. MY. GOODNESS. This was the most delectable drink ever. I think I will dream of this. Half sweet was perfect was I could still taste the espresso and it wasn’t masked with too much sugar. I hope this becomes a permanent menu item. I also love that they don’t charge for alternative milk and the baristas don’t hound over the cash register to watch and see if you tip (I always do, I just hate feeling pressured and a lot of coffee...
Read moreI often struggle at coffee shops - the issue is the price and then the atmosphere as I think of the price as a payment for the time you spend there working. Sometimes the atmosphere makes it hard to work and if the prices are especially high then it’s sad for me, though when it’s done right it’s one of my joys in life to read/work in a coffee shop.
This coffee shop is my favorite so far and it might be my favorite going forward: the music is not too loud. It’s clean and cozy, unpretentious. The prices are what you’d expect these days, not unreasonably high. Located in a charming area. Also the espresso is really good. I came here to work and was productive. They had cute holiday decorations iirc. Everyone was...
