The team are extremely rude in this shop. I am a polite person always ensure to have have manners say please and thank you and be kind to service staff and honestly they just look at you like you have ten heads. Never say polite word to you and I have heard the staff openly complain about working there or different collegues while behind the till on numerous occasions.
This morning This crazy woman came out to shout at myself and my friends who were sitting outside 2 of us had coffees and food from this place and one of our friends had a Starbucks cup so this woman instead of politely asking him to remove his coffee starts to raise her voice at us that “she can’t have outside coffee on a table” bare in mind there was no one else on a table outside only us, myself and my friends had coffees and food with us and there was about 6 empty tables and it’s 8am. Ie no other customers around. Mt friend was like yes no problem I’ll leave, I said to her well look we have coffees and food and he’s with us but she didn’t even let me finish she just started shouting further about outside coffee so due to her raising her voice and acting so frantic I had rolled my eyes as we got up to leave to which she continued to shout st me like I’m a 5 year old child about outside coffee. Ridiculous.
Totally understand her point about the coffee but not appropriate or professional to raise your voice at people especially customers of yours. It was embarrassing for her extremely rude and if that person worked for my business they would be dismissed immediately.
The same woman was clearly quite angry all morning as I saw her speak rudely to her team in the shop top about was storming around the place with bad energy.
Top tip; your coffee is over priced your service is dreadful on every occasion I’ve been there and shouting at your customers won’t generate more business for you. Won’t be coming back despite spending about $20 dollars here 4-5 times a...
Read moreHonestly, super disappointed in this place. Had heard good things from a friend and went for the espresso negroni but ended up very displeased with service and atmosphere (drinks were fine. nothing special and definitely did not justify the price given everything else). My partner and I went in around 4:30pm on a Friday. It was empty except for 2 very loud ladies. We were seated and served by a waiter showing no emotion whatsoever, and so very deadpan/cold that it almost felt like we were not welcome. We ordered 2 different cocktails. They arrived separately (not what I would expect from a nicer place, especially when it's not busy), in dirty glasses with water (from being rinsed) still dripping off the edges. You could taste the coffee in the Kyoto Negroni but not in the Old Slip whatsoever. Lastly, the choice of small ice cubes is just lazy for a place presenting itself as higher-end and I won't even comment on how they were half-melted. About the atmosphere: nice lighting, space and furniture are fine (except no cushions on the sofa so little back support). Major fail: inconsistent music style (not only did it regularly not match the vibe of the place but it also switched around different genres) and the waiter, on several occasions, was pressing "next" on the playlist continuously as if this was some private spotify session. What? He checked on us about 4 times within 40 minutes of us being there with our drinks (only 1 more couple had joined, so still not busy) which frankly felt very annoying and made us wonder if he was trying to push us out. Again, not suitable for such an establishment. It's all about context. If this were a pub, I'd consider the service to have been great, if this were a casual restaurant, same....
Read moreExcellent place. I live right nearby and am so thrilled to have found it and be able to visit pretty often.
Decor: Beautiful interior design that seamlessly transfers from daytime coffee/lunch bites to nighttime bar vibe. The couple of small outdoor tables are nice for sitting on the street and people-watching in the Meatpacking District!
Coffee Quality: The coffee is great — and I'm a coffee snob! I often get a cold brew here — one of the best around.
Staff: What makes this place exceptional is the staff. Every time I go, I've recognized the staff members as the same 3 or 4 people. They are extremely quick to prep my order and expedite payment. They seem to all be close friends, and enjoy chatting and being all-around awesome/friendly! It feels like visiting a small-town coffee shop (with downtown NYC-level decorating/service/products, though) as I see the staff greet regular costumers by first name. This seems like a rare thing, I've found, being in such a big city with cycling shops and staff at cafes.
Unlimited coffee: They take the Cups app — which provides unlimited coffee subscription plans. For some shameless self promotion: get $10 off your first plan with my coupon code u2zqm. Use it at Kobrick — and bunches of other NYC coffee shops!!).
One con — the first time I was there I got a sandwich, which was like $8 or so. It was a little meh/small/tasteless for the price. I got a croissant another morning, and it was also expensive yet a little dry and bland. So now I just stay away from food there, for the most part. But that's fine — the coffee is so great it makes up for it.
Overall — I love this place!...
