I was in NYC for 1 week. I wish I was kidding, but gyros have always given me stomach aches until I had some at a friend's request when we came to visit. I was surprised, and our 3rd gyro trip was here. Y'all. That was weeks ago and I still think about the lamb pita I had here ONCE. It was so good, and messy but in the right ways. For my texture/tactile folk, get a fork and some napkins. Ngl, my friend and I went to a nearby park to devour these and the pigeons loved how much I dropped because I'm a weenie when it comes to touching sauces sometimes. Did I lick the sauce off my fingers? Yes. Was I uncomfortable with the mess? Maybe a little. Was it worth it? Absolutely. I think this is the truest of food carts, someone who loves the food they make, enjoys seeing people enjoy it at an affordable cost, and gets to go home to their family on their own dime and set time. What a beautiful thing. My friend and I wanted to come back a couple hours after trying this place, but sadly time did not work out. When I come back to NYC I'm 500% having this place again. Also, I got a side of falafel - and it was the best falafel I had my whole week there. Small, maybe, but in taste, no. I implore you, try the lamb pita (and if you're a spice person, accept the...
Read moreidk what these past reviews are have been seeing to give it a full 5 stars but it is not the same as it once was, not even close. the food truck recently got a C vendor grade in May 2024 (you have to mess up really bad to get this grade), so be careful of eating here from now on first and foremost...
Secondly, the person that served my order (chicken over rice) gave me a plastic spoon portion of white sauce at the corner of the platter when I had clearly asked for a 'lot of white sauce', and I had to ask him a second time to add more before he started trying to charge me for the food; this has never happened to me anywhere else in NYC when ordering Chicken Over Rice. As if that was not bad enough, the chicken on its own ended up being way too salty and not even the white sauce could help. Basically was only able to eat the rice/salad with the white sauce for the rest of the meal. For one of the few times I actually tried to look for a cart by making specific trip via Google Maps, this was by far the most disappointing and honestly a waste of money/time. Will never...
Read moreThis is as good as semi-traditional street meat gets. Non traditional would be your korean taco truck, lobster truck, or schnitzel truck for example. This is traditional in the sense that it is mostly meats over rice. Kwik's differentiation is his level of sophistication in the meats. My favorite is the lamb. It is real whole chunks of lamb. Name any other street meat cart and their lamb is the meatloaf version horizontally roasting on a spit. Kwik's lamb is cooked perfectly, juicy, great flavor... it has the robust taste of lamb shoulder chops, but none of the fat. His white sauce is divine, surely made with whole milk yogurt among other secret ingredients and his hot sauce is fairly mild, but packs flavor and saltiness.
If you go here for the first time, get the lamb over rice. If you go here a second time, get the chicken over rice (significantly different than traditional chicken over rice). If you go here a third time, get the jumbo shrimp over rice.... yes, he serves fresh not-over-cooked shrimp in...
