Stopped in around 9am on a Saturday morning to grab a snack before going for dim sum a few blocks over. The space was small but the display case was filled with quite a variety of goods. I got a mix of things for the group including pandebonos, pan de queso, an arepa de choclo, a palito de queso, and an agua de panela, a simple yet comforting drink that my grandma swears cures all ailments.
The arepa de choclo was a bit on the dry side to eat on its own and likely would've benefitted from a toasting and addition of a slice of traditional cheese (had I asked for it). The palito de queso was also just fine, tasted like Pillsbury crescent roll dough wrapped around queso de freir (you honestly can't go wrong with cheese and dough). The true winners, however were the pandebonos. They were still hot when we pulled them out of the bag, with a very satisfying crunch as we bit into the crust. The dough had a lovely stretch to it thanks to the cheese and had just a hint of sweetness which is typical for American-made pandebonos vs the sharp, salty cheesiness of pandebonos made in Colombia. The pan de queso were made of the same (or similar but indistinguishable) dough and also had a decent crunch, but didn't reheat as well as the pandebonos bc of their thinner shape.
Tl;dr - Los Paisitas has the best pandebonos I've had in NYC so far and I'll definitely stop in for more when I'm...
ย ย ย Read moreMy mother walked in today 12/13/22 at around 2:45pm. She asked for a chicken soup and the lady told her she only had beef soup. My mom said she would take the beef soup then and two spinach empanadas. When the employee gave my mother her change, she realized she was overcharged. The employee told her total was $21. My mother asked why, the employee said she had a soup combo with beef. Thatโs not what my mom ordered. The employee refused to give my mother a refund, saying she HAD to take the combo, that she was not going refund anything. I overheard the man in the kitchen with glasses saying to make sure she took the whole combo. Why are the employees in this establishment forcing customers to pay for items they didnโt order? And why did the employee say that if she refunded my mother she was going to get that discounted from her pay? I would like to know who the owner of this establishment is and ask why are their employees purposely overcharging customers, having an attitude, and most importantly being threatened that they will get charged if any refunds are made. THAT IS ILLEGAL. The food is good but the customer service is terrible, I will walk inside the whole week until I get to speak to the manager or whoever...
