Was in the Harlem area and had a craving for a lobster roll. I've heard lots about Luke's Lobster, decided to make a quick stop. The cashier was friendly and took time to explain the menu. Decided on the original lobster roll made it a meal with chips and rose wine to drink. The 4oz lobster roll was ($23) plus the rose ($8). Overall it was okay. Not my favorite. I have a preference for the rolls chilled with mayo that I've had in front of Brooklyn Museum one summer from Cousins Maine Lobster truck which was spectacular. This one just wasn't quite that.
The lobster meat however was plentiful and juicy. However, there was a mistake on my roll because it wasn't buttered. So the bread was just toasted and dry which was off-putting. I noticed the comments about the price and definitely wanted to chime in on that. Because yes, the price for such a small roll is pretty high. (I know, I know, it looks huge in the photo..it wasn't). But if you're feeling fancy and want a snack to share, it could be for you. Just don't buy the wine, just acid in a can. It was very acidic, watery and slightly tart. Not enjoyable. I trashed it.
The area was small and neat. The staff were friendly. The woman who prepared the food was also very friendly. So overall, I'd rate here 4.3 stars. Mostly based on preference and total satisfaction...
Read moreAfter dragging myself out of bed on a weekend to go see the Banksy on 79th Street btwn. Broadway and Amsterdam (please don't ask me what all the fuss is about), and after tremendous self-denial walking through the Broadway Street Fair's selection of BBQ stands.... I made it to Luke's Lobster. Whew! But as my Mom would say, I had my mouth "tuned up" for some seafood and I wasn't going to be satisfied until I got it.
Apparently I've only had weak approximations of a lobster roll up until now. This was perfect. For a half roll, I got plenty of succulent lobster chunks. The seasoning was on point, the mayo light and the toasted bun with butter.... oh the butter.
I ordered the Taste of Maine: Shrimp, crab and lobster rolls with a bag of chips and soda. The crab was my second favorite, but surprisingly the shrimp came in third. I usually prefer shrimp over all seafood... well maybe a three-way tie with flounder and muscles. They were kinda small and started off weird. But after a few more bites they were tasty. Just not as good as the crab, and nowhere as good as the lobster. Though the Taste of Maine consists of three small half-rolls, it was plenty of food with the chips.
This was one of the best reasons to get out of bed...
Read moreThis is coming from someone who loves lobster rolls and seafood...this was not only the worst we've had (2 other adults and 1 child who also is a fan of seafood didn't want a second bite) but also, I almost choked on a bone from the shrimp roll! How did it get in there?
We got the trio ($19.50 + tax), which is one roll, cut into 3 pieces with a sampling of crab, shrimp, and lobster in each one of them. The rolls were cold and dry, the meat in each one was wet and soggy in a bad way, and none of the three had good flavor.
Back to the bone, I called them up about it, and the gentleman told me that they normally do a pretty good job cleaning it up, but whoever was there at the time, unfortunately didn't do a good job of it. That bone was sharp enough on both ends that it could pierce skin...and they acted as though it's a common occurrence depending on who is working the shift.
We have been to Luke's Lobster once in Georgetown DC and it was amazing...fresh, flarvorful, buttery yummyness....Unfortunately, This is the first and last time we will go to one of their chains...
