Disappointed in today. I don’t know why the person behind the counter was so rude to my sister. Both my sister and I are servers and have worked the counter too so we were so excited to come here after my big show at Shapeshifter to celebrate. We (as a group) asked to bump the order for the kids in front of the rest of the orders for our group (at this point only our table had ordered-no one else so this wouldn’t gave been disruptive) and instead of being chill and declining nicely they were so weird and mean for some reason? Just be kind and explain that you can’t do that here at this restaurant or something instead of being so irritated right out of the gate. We know that not all restaurants can be flexible like our restaurant is but being really impatient and hateful felt really out of place. I’ve had bad days before but when you’re front of house it’s so weird to be impatient with the customer just right away. I guess I’ll come back? The table was perfect for our group, but if I see that person behind the counter I won’t. We stood outside and talked to another group who had a similar weird interaction with the person behind the counter and commiserated. I genuinely hope they are okay and that their day got better. But yikes.
EDITED TO ADD: I see your response and I just want to reiterate that we were simply requesting it be fired or put in front of the rest of the group. My sister asked nicely and multiple people witnessed a disproportionate response from your workers. Both my sister and I are in the thick of it weekly and deal with really demanding tourists and jerks but we were trained and work in an environment where the culture would never allow for such an intense response. If you’re understaffed so much that people behave this way to a simple request then maybe you should look into how to adjust your work culture. My sister didn’t even need a yes, just a normal measured response. I would never talk to a customer this way- and I’m from the camp that the customer ISN’T always right. I just wouldn’t treat my customers like this. Honestly so...
Read moreI've tried to come in to just grab a coffee on my way to work - but the ten dollar minimum on credit cards turned me away. The place looked pleasant and popular so I thought that I would give it a try for a seated meal.
Going there this morning, service was slow and inattentive. I ordered a quinoa salad with chicken which was $16 and a drip coffee. The salad was disappointing- bland with a few bruised baby spinach leaves. Cheap bland feta and overcooked unseasoned cauliflower florets. Maybe one of the more underwhelming meals I've had for long time with a steep price tag and a claim on the menu for using the highest quality , freshest ingredients.
I got a refill on my coffee and asked for the check... to top the experience off, getting the bill I find that I've paid for two coffees , since I wasn't informed that there were no refills on my 8oz ceramic cup ($5.25) When I mentioned it to the cashier - my waiter shrugged it off.
If I'm paying 16$ for a salad - I would at least think my drip coffee would have a refill like any other restaurant.
Throughly underwhelmed- and annoyed... cute interior decor doesn't always square up with the quality of food or...

Ha, do you see my excitement? Milk Bar has been a favourite of mine ever since I tried them when they had just opened on Vanderbilt. To my absolute delight, they recently opened a location in Park Slope which is a lot more convenient for me to get to (including parking).
One thing I tell people about Milk Bar, the food will fill you up but you'd crave more because it's just that good, even if you're full.
I always get the egg scramble toast and add smoked salmon. It is the epitome of divinity, for real. The full eggs, and mushroom toast is also really tasty and delicious. They get 10 points for allowing subsitutions --- not being able to take out creme fraiche from the eggs would have been a deal breaker for me.
Their coffees, lattes are fresh, hot and very flavorful and they have almond milk (ha I've been running into places that still haven't heard of non dairy milk).
They are a little pricey but totally worth every penny. I think about that egg scramble toast and totally get butterflies and feels down my body haha.
The staff is also friendly and eager to help you decide what to order. So so glad they opened...
