Mr. Melo — Restaurant in New York

I hate to leave an awful review for such a cute spot, but my experience with the manager was enough to warrant a 1-star review. I went to this bar with a group of friends for a lowkey farewell party, and about a couple of hours in, the music became very, very loud. I asked the manager politely if he or someone on staff could reduce the volume just a tiny bit, honestly just enough to keep them from catching an OSHA violation (over 100 decibels). The manager totally lost his cool and griped about how much work it was to turn down the levels. After our chat, he disappears for about 30 minutes and then returns to falsely accuse me of not tipping for a beer + shot I ordered. Lol what? So petty! Of course I don’t mind tipping a dollar or two for a beer + shot. For further context, the bartender didn’t tell me the exact amount at checkout, or it was just too loud to hear the exact amount, so I handed her (not sure about the bartender’s pronouns but assuming “her” apologies if incorrect) a 10 dollar bill; I expected that to be enough for my order plus tip. A few minutes later, the manager pulls me aside, berates me about not tipping and then bullies me into giving them a better tip. I’ve lived, and partied, in NYC for well over 15 years. I’ve literally never had an experience like this before in any bars in Brooklyn, Queens or Manhattan. It sucks that such a cute new place with good, albeit overpriced, drinks treats their customers like this. We’re genuinely not difficult people, but after that, they’ll never see us again. I went to Mr. Melo after a not so great experience at a neighboring bar and they exceeded my expectations! From the beginning of our experience, they were attentive, were available to answer questions about drinks and they were so kind. They truly made my night and by they I mean Ami And Cooper. Thank you to both of you for turning around an uneventful evening to a magical night. The DJ (I am not sure who it was) Was also sensational and added to the already obvious ambience! Great vibe, great food, great service. Good place to take friends. It doesn't look very big when you first come in, but that's just the front bar. There is a wonderfully vibey main area in the back. It's a versatile space, you could have a nice first date or bring some friends for a chill get together during the week, or have a big party on the weekends. There are lots of comfy spaces to sit at tables, as well as lots of bar seating. The staff is super nice and knowledgeable.
